Audio technology provider Dirac Research AB today announced a new cooperation with car manufacturer Volvo Cars. The aim is to bring the sonic performance of Volvo’s new premium audio system to new levels by the means of advanced digital control technology.
Volvo Cars recently revealed their continued ambition to further improve their selection of audio systems. As part of their commitment to building a unique customer experience, they are launching a new improved premium audio system, where Dirac Live is used in order to provide top of class sound quality.
The new premium audio system (by Harman Kardon) is to be launched in a range of car models including the XC60, V60, S60, S60L, V40, V40 Cross Country, S80, S80L, V70 and XC70, with the first car model, the V70, reaching market in May 2014.
“We have been working closely with Volvo’s team of dedicated sound engineers. By using advanced acoustic measurement and analysis methods, we created an exact model of each car’s acoustic properties. Using the Dirac Live technology, we then created a digital controller that optimizes the sound of the audio system based on the cabin properties of each model,” said Dr. Lars-Johan Brännmark, Chief Scientist at Dirac.
“When it comes to musical performance, the end result is extraordinary. By combining our sound technology with Harman Kardon’s high quality components, Volvo Cars has succeeded especially well in terms of clarity and imaging,” he continued.
On a technical level, Dirac Live is an advanced mixed-phase audio optimization technology, which utilizes impulse response and frequency response optimization. Dirac Live is used in the automotive, high performance audio, professional cinema, and professional audio markets. It is also available for computer audiophiles as the Dirac Live Room Correction Suite software from Dirac’s online store.
