MEDFORD, Ore., April 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Driver Matt Coffman is raising the bar at Formula Drift.
Coffman joins the growing ranks of professional athletes who prepare for their sport with an holistic training regimen, signing on as a client of David Fresilli, owner of Holistic Health & Fitness..
Holistic Training is an "all-round" approach to wellness that encompasses athletic physical conditioning, nutrition and personalized training. Holistic nutrition planning recognizes the individual metabolism and creates a diet specific to each individual athlete. Along with this, David Fresilli helps Matt acheive proper biomechanics and posture at all times to maximize efficiency and decreases the potential for injury. Which is why Fresili has Coffman incorporating yoga and mountain biking into his fitness program. Coffman says this new training regimen has him ready for Formula Drift's 2014 Pro Championship season and his upcoming Rally America events.
Lee Clark, CEO of Coffman Racing has pushed the young driver to explore new training methods including that of holistic training. "So many professional drivers embrace these methods nowadays," says Clark. "I wanted Matt to have some help putting his physical talents together with his mental ones in a whole new manner. I knew it would take his performance to a whole new level." For those not familiar with the holistic training concept, David Fresilli summarizes it.
"There are eight biomotor abilities we look at when working with a professional athlete," explains Fresilli. "Speed, agility, endurance, coordination, strength, power, flexibility and balance." He says it is up to the trainer and coach to jointly determine exactly where the focus needs to be for each athlete, but that in Coffman's case flexibility is key. This is why Fresilli has partnered so closely with Jon Kennedy at Diamondback Bikes.
Fresilli explains what happens to professional drivers as they continue to sit behind the wheel, "When they're in a seated position for hours at a time, their bodies conform to the length tension of their muscles. Their hamstrings and hip flexors get too tight, lower back erectors lengthen and become painful, shoulders "round" forward and their chests actually depress. To top it off," he concluded, "their heads then translate forward." Fresilli says in addition to flexibility, Matt trains for core and spinal stabilization, muscle endurance, balance, agility and strength.
But Fresilli's holistic training program takes into account much more than just body position, and nutrition. Mountain biking serves as an excellent physical conditioning exercise that has direct ties to both rally and drift as it relates to hand-eye coordination, angle and line, even how the riders and drivers plan their braking to go as fast as possible, on the very edge of control.
Matt takes his training very seriously, but that doesn't mean it isn't fun as well. Pacific Northwest bicycle manufacturer, Diamondback Bikes, has provided a mountain bike to assist in these other biomotor abilities. Matt's personalized 29er allows him to keep his style on and off the track, and its Maxxis MTB tires give him the edge he needs to ride aggressively as he trains. Matt couldn't be happier.
And Diamondback Bikes feel the same way: "We were very happy to work with David and assist Matt with his pre-season training by providing him with a top of the line 2014 Sortie Black 29er mountain bike." said Jon Kennedy, Mountain Marketing & Team Manager of Kent, WA based Diamondback Bikes. "Not only do we like that he's a Northwest talent, we know cycling can be an important part of any holistic training program."
Coffman himself seems to take holistic training in-stride. "If it'll help me win," he smiled, "I'll pretty much try it...within reason of course! But a big part of David's [Fresilli] regimen has to do with mental strength and that's something that is really important to me."
Fresilli agreed, adding: "Athletes must condition their minds to only see the end result of winning or achieving their desired goals. This mental focus just like any other muscle in the body and must be conditioned to perform at its highest level."

What happens when the different parts of a vehicle become smarter than the vehicle itself? As we move toward the era of smart everything, hundreds of entities in a vehicle that communicate with each other, the vehicle and external systems create a need for identity orchestration so that all entities work as a conglomerate. Much like an orchestra without a conductor, without the ability to secure, control, and connect the link between a vehicle’s head unit, devices, and systems and to manage the ...

Web Real-Time Communication APIs have quickly revolutionized what browsers are capable of. In addition to video and audio streams, we can now bi-directionally send arbitrary data over WebRTC's PeerConnection Data Channels. With the advent of Progressive Web Apps and new hardware APIs such as WebBluetooh and WebUSB, we can finally enable users to stitch together the Internet of Things directly from their browsers while communicating privately and securely in a decentralized way.

For basic one-to-one voice or video calling solutions, WebRTC has proven to be a very powerful technology. Although WebRTC’s core functionality is to provide secure, real-time p2p media streaming, leveraging native platform features and server-side components brings up new communication capabilities for web and native mobile applications, allowing for advanced multi-user use cases such as video broadcasting, conferencing, and media recording.

Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards. HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular basis. Each protocol has its pros and cons depending on the nature of the communications. Does there really need to be only one protocol to rule them all? Of course not. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Chris Matthieu, co-founder and CTO of Octoblu, walk you through how Oct...

DevOps is speeding towards the IT world like a freight train and the hype around it is deafening. There is no reason to be afraid of this change as it is the natural reaction to the agile movement that revolutionized development just a few years ago. By definition, DevOps is the natural alignment of IT performance to business profitability. The relevance of this has yet to be quantified but it has been suggested that the route to the CEO’s chair will come from the IT leaders that successfully ma...

Major trends and emerging technologies – from virtual reality and IoT, to Big Data and algorithms – are helping organizations innovate in the digital era. However, to create real business value, IT must think beyond the ‘what’ of digital transformation to the ‘how’ to harness emerging trends, innovation and disruption. Architecture is the key that underpins and ties all these efforts together. In the digital age, it’s important to invest in architecture, extend the enterprise footprint to the cl...

A critical component of any IoT project is what to do with all the data being generated. This data needs to be captured, processed, structured, and stored in a way to facilitate different kinds of queries. Traditional data warehouse and analytical systems are mature technologies that can be used to handle certain kinds of queries, but they are not always well suited to many problems, particularly when there is a need for real-time insights.
