RESTON, Va., April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Leidos [NYSE: LDOS], a national security, health and engineering solutions company, has been named as one of the Best Corporations for Veteran Owned Businesses for 2014 by the National Veteran-Owned Business Association and Vetrepreneur magazine. The list honors 25 companies that most successfully engage the nation's three million veteran-owned business (VOBs) as suppliers.
Leidos has been recognized as a leader of working with small businesses, not just veteran-owned small businesses. The company has been recognized by the Small Business Administration, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs for its overall performance and efforts in working with small businesses. Select awards include the SBA Dwight D. Eisenhower Award for excellence in working with small businesses, and the DoD Nunn-Perry Award for mentor-protege excellence.
"We strongly believe veteran-owned businesses bring the needed capabilities and technical know-how to enable Leidos to better serve our customers," said John Thomas, Leidos chief strategic officer. "Teaming with these companies and combining our collective experience is the key to innovation. We are incredibly proud to be recognized for our commitment to veterans-owned businesses."
NaVOBA unites current and future VOBs by acting as the national voice for the veteran business community. One out of every seven businesses in the United States is owned by a veteran, according to the association, which works to encourage corporate America and the government to consider using VOBs as preferred vendors.
Leidos is a science and technology solutions leader working to address some of the world's toughest challenges in national security, health, and engineering. The Company's 22,000 employees support vital missions for our government and the commercial sector, develop innovative solutions to drive better outcomes, and defend our Nation's digital and physical infrastructure from 'new world' threats. Headquartered in Reston, Va., Leidos had annual revenues of approximately $5.77 billion for its fiscal year ended January 31, 2014, following the spin-off of the company's technical services and information technology business.
