NYC Runs on Drupal

NYC's largest free Open Source Drupal Conference at the United Nations (Apr 10 to 13)

NEW YORK, April 2, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Widespread adoption of the open source Drupal web platform by NYC organizations has lead to explosive growth of New York City's annual Drupal conference, NYC Camp (aka 'nice camp'). Next week, 1,000+ attendees from over a dozen countries will attend NYC Camp 2014 at the UN (April 10-13). NYC Camp features presentations by Drupal luminaries, a conference keynote by Atefah Riazi (UN CITO/ASG), and an evening keynote by Robin Chase (founder/former CEO of ZipCar, which uses Drupal). NYC Camp is 100% free for attendees and will help to train hundreds of new Drupalists.

Over the last decade, Drupal has grown from a dorm-room project into a global enterprise platform. Drupal now powers the web presence of leading organizations from virtually all sectors of the NYC economy, including:

  • Business: GE, J&J, Pfizer, NY Stock Exchange
  • Gov't.: Michael Bloomberg, MTA, NY Senate
  • Higher Education: Columbia, Hunter, NYU
  • Publishing: Economist, Hearst, Maxim, Rodale, Time-Life, Reuters
  • NGOs: UN, World Economic Forum
  • Nonprofits: NRDC, NYPL, NYRR, Teach for America
  • Sports: NY Knicks, Brooklyn Nets, Major League Soccer
  • Technology: Gilt Groupe, MongoDB, Twitter, Zagat/Google
  • TV/Music NBC, Sony Music, Warner Music

In addition to empowering these NYC organizations, Drupal has helped create several thousand skilled local tech jobs. Overall, Drupal powers 2% of all Internet websites -- including many of the world's most sophisticated sites, such as the White House, NASA, and the Grammys. The UN's ambitious ongoing web initiatives perfectly showcase how Drupal is empowering innovation at the world's leading organizations.

The global Drupal community has now grown to over a million members, thousands of whom are from NYC. Whether you're looking to learn Drupal or find talent for your team, don't miss next week's NYC Camp at the UN! All 4 days of NYC Camp are 100% free for attendees, thanks to the generous support of the UN's Office of Information and Communications Technology, as well as NYC Camp's partners, especially Lead Partners Blink Reaction (http://blinkreaction.com) and Acquia (http://acquia.com). That said, space at the UN is limited and NYC Camp will fill up, so it's important to register soon!

Major trends and emerging technologies – from virtual reality and IoT, to Big Data and algorithms – are helping organizations innovate in the digital era. However, to create real business value, IT must think beyond the ‘what’ of digital transformation to the ‘how’ to harness emerging trends, innovation and disruption. Architecture is the key that underpins and ties all these efforts together. In the digital age, it’s important to invest in architecture, extend the enterprise footprint to the cl...

IoT is rapidly becoming mainstream as more and more investments are made into the platforms and technology. As this movement continues to expand and gain momentum it creates a massive wall of noise that can be difficult to sift through. Unfortunately, this inevitably makes IoT less approachable for people to get started with and can hamper efforts to integrate this key technology into your own portfolio. There are so many connected products already in place today with many hundreds more on the h...

Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id...
