FIRST® Announces Qualcomm as the Presenting Championship Sponsor along with Expanding List of Sponsors for 2014 FIRST Championship Event

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a not-for-profit organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology, today announced that Qualcomm Incorporated will increase its support as Presenting Sponsor for the 2014 FIRST Championship being held at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Mo., April 23-26.

FIRST Sponsors underwrite the annual Championship, which was voted one of the top 7 family-friendly events in St. Louis in 2013 by the St. Louis Sprout. With the help of thousands of Coaches, Mentors, and Volunteers, more than 10,000 young people in grades K-12 from around the world have earned a coveted spot to compete at the FIRST Championship. With the support of FIRST Sponsors, the FIRST Championship promises participating teams and spectators alike an exciting, action-packed, once-in-a-lifetime experience that has all the heart-pounding thrills and team spirit of a professional sporting event.

The city has hosted the Championship since 2011. The international event showcases student teams from FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) for students in grades 9-12; FIRST® Tech Challenge (FTC®) for grades 7-12; FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL®) for grades 4-8; and Junior FIRST® LEGO® League (Jr.FLL®) for grades K-3.
