Shire Announces the Organize Your Stuff Contest

Contest for adults who struggle with organization

PHILADELPHIA, April 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Shire today announced the launch of the Organize Your Stuff contest, which is designed for adults who want help organizing their space and reducing clutter. The contest includes the support of expert organizer Monica Friel, president and founder of Chaos to Order, a respected professional organizing service.

To enter, adults ages 18 and over can submit a photo to OrganizeYourStuffContest.com. The photo should be of a space they need help organizing. The submission should include a description of the space, why they are motivated to organize it, and the issues that keep them from organizing the space themselves. The grand prize winner will win up to $2,500 in prizes including items from The Container Store®, a tablet with a gift card to purchase apps, and a consultation with Monica Friel. Monica will develop a plan and put together a custom order from The Container Store tailored to the winning space. Monica will then meet with the winner in person to implement the organizational plan.

"Effective organizational skills do not come naturally to everyone," said Monica Friel. "I recognized that I could lend my expertise as a professional organizer to provide others with helpful ideas for use in their everyday lives. Whether it is conquering clutter or maximizing space at home or work, I look forward to the results of the Organize Your Stuff contest so that I can help the winner become more streamlined and focus on what is important."

The contest will also include three random drawings over three months in which each winner will take home a tablet with a gift card to purchase apps. Contest entries are being accepted through June 30, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. ET and the winners will be notified in August 2014.

"Shire is committed to providing resources to individuals with ADHD," said Perry Sternberg, Head of the Neuroscience Business Unit. "This contest is an extension of the support we have been giving to adults through UDotheRest.com. This site provides apps, tips and tools that may help make everyday tasks related to time management and organization more manageable, and maybe even a little more fun."

The UDotheRest Web site was developed by Shire, the maker of Vyvanse® (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate). Vyvanse is a prescription medication for the treatment of ADHD in patients 6 and above. It may improve symptoms of impulsivity, hyperactivity and inattention in patients with ADHD. The rest is up to them. While UDotheRest.com may be helpful for adults with ADHD, the apps, tips, and tools collected there are available for any adult who is looking for a little assistance in these areas.

About ADHD
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurobehavioral disorder that manifests as a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development and is inconsistent with developmental level.

ADHD is one of the most common childhood psychiatric disorders. Although many people tend to think of ADHD as a childhood problem, 60% to 85% of children with ADHD may continue to meet the criteria for the disorder during their teenage years. Nearly 50% of children with ADHD may continue to meet the criteria for the disorder in adulthood, based on parent report. The disorder is estimated to affect 4.4 percent of US adults aged 18 to 44 based on results from the National Comorbidity Survey Replication. When this percentage is extrapolated to the full US population aged 18 and over, approximately 10 million adults are estimated to have ADHD. Drug treatment may not be appropriate for all patients with ADHD.

The specific etiology of ADHD is unknown. The diagnosis is made utilizing criteria specified in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, (DSM-5™) or International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10).

Although there is no cure for ADHD, there are accepted treatments that have been demonstrated to improve symptoms. Standard treatments include educational approaches, psychological therapies which may include behavioral modification, and/or medication.
