DALLAS, TX--(Marketwired - April 07, 2014) - Aimed at developing the future generation of Texas based businesses by providing both business knowledge and company specific advice, the TiE Dallas Mentoring Program, which just kicked off with its first group event on March 27th, is attracting significant interest in the community.
"The addition of a mentoring program completes the TiE entrepreneurial ecosystem, with TiE Dallas now providing all the support that entrepreneurs need to be successful," says Pratima Rao, Founder and CEO of Compellink and President of TiE Dallas in 2012 - 2013.
Aspiring entrepreneurs get the chance to refine their business ideas and strategies through one-on-one meetings with mentors who have successfully created and run their own businesses. Each mentee has the opportunity to learn from more than one mentor, depending on the individual needs of each mentee and the skillsets of participating mentors. Each mentee has paid a membership fee which entitles them to 6 hours of one-on-one mentoring plus attendance at quarterly group mentoring events in 2014. Mentees will be expected to track their progress against an agreed upon set of goals, to ensure that each mentee benefits from the program.
"The idea is to provide a platform to help entrepreneurs succeed with the help of a seasoned coach. Whether the new venture is in the big data, social media, mobility, or nearly any other space, we have mentors available through the TiE network who can assist," says Nick Mysore, Angel Investor and Advisor, and Chair of the TiE Dallas Mentoring Program.
The TiE Dallas Mentoring Program was first announced at TiECon SW 2013, a collaborative event between TiE Dallas, TiE Houston, and TiE Austin on October 26, 2013, under the leadership of then President Pratima Rao. Kanwal Rekhi, Managing Director, Inventus Capital Partners, was a keynote speaker and with Nick Mysore launched the mentoring program at a special Mentoring Roundtable luncheon event for attendees.
"I am thrilled that we have identified a real need in the Dallas area, as evidenced by the multitude of passionate entrepreneurs who are keen to join this program, but feel badly that we must turn away so many of them. Since we are only just starting up, we must be prudent and keep our inaugural class to a manageable number of participants to ensure that each receives maximum benefits," says Nick Mysore.
The TiECon SW 2013 Mentoring Roundtable event was standing room only. Since then the interest has continued to be overwhelming. Everyone involved in the program cleared their calendars for 100% attendance at the Mentoring Program Kickoff Dinner on March 27
"The energy and passion at the mentoring kickoff dinner has been unlike anything I have seen in a long time. It is exciting to see so much enthusiasm for this new program," says Om Singla, President, Automation Image, and now a mentor in the mentoring program.
Nilesh Naik, President at Eagle Circuits, Governing Board Member of TiE Dallas, and now a mentor in the new mentoring program says, "We are excited to offer the TiE Dallas Mentoring Program in the Dallas community and believe it will be a great supplement to the other educationally relevant programs in the DFW area. This program also provides a tremendous opportunity for those of us who have already been down the path of starting a new venture, to give back to others in the entrepreneurial community who have only begun their own journey."

The many IoT deployments around the world are busy integrating smart devices and sensors into their enterprise IT infrastructures. Yet all of this technology – and there are an amazing number of choices – is of no use without the software to gather, communicate, and analyze the new data flows. Without software, there is no IT. In this power panel at @ThingsExpo, moderated by Conference Chair Roger Strukhoff, Dave McCarthy, Director of Products at Bsquare Corporation; Alan Williamson, Principal...

Extracting business value from Internet of Things (IoT) data doesn’t happen overnight. There are several requirements that must be satisfied, including IoT device enablement, data analysis, real-time detection of complex events and automated orchestration of actions. Unfortunately, too many companies fall short in achieving their business goals by implementing incomplete solutions or not focusing on tangible use cases. In his general session at @ThingsExpo, Dave McCarthy, Director of Products...

Without a clear strategy for cost control and an architecture designed with cloud services in mind, costs and operational performance can quickly get out of control. To avoid multiple architectural redesigns requires extensive thought and planning. Boundary (now part of BMC) launched a new public-facing multi-tenant high resolution monitoring service on Amazon AWS two years ago, facing challenges and learning best practices in the early days of the new service. Unsecured IoT devices were used to launch crippling DDOS attacks in October 2016, targeting services such as Twitter, Spotify, and GitHub. Subsequent testimony to Congress about potential attacks on office buildings, schools, and hospitals raised the possibility for the IoT to harm and even kill people. What should be done? Does the government need to intervene? This panel at @ThingExpo New York brings together leading IoT and security experts to discuss this very serious topic.

In this strange new world where more and more power is drawn from business technology, companies are effectively straddling two paths on the road to innovation and transformation into digital enterprises. The first path is the heritage trail – with “legacy” technology forming the background. Here, extant technologies are transformed by core IT teams to provide more API-driven approaches. Legacy systems can restrict companies that are transitioning into digital enterprises. To truly become a lead...

Internet-of-Things discussions can end up either going down the consumer gadget rabbit hole or focused on the sort of data logging that industrial manufacturers have been doing forever. However, in fact, companies today are already using IoT data both to optimize their operational technology and to improve the experience of customer interactions in novel ways. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Gordon Haff, Red Hat Technology Evangelist, will share examples from a wide range of industries – includin...
