Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q Launches Facebook Contest for Three National Military Charities to Compete for Funds Raised in May

HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/14 -- Rudy's "Country Store" and Bar-B-Q today launched its first Facebook contest for three military-focused charity partners, namely, the American Widow Project, Homes for Our Troops and Special Operations Warrior Foundation, which are competing for the most number of votes beginning April 1st through May 31st.

The three charities are competing to win funds raised by Rudy's Bar-B-Q in May as part of its annual Cup for a Cause fundraising campaign. Facebook users can vote for the charity of their choice by visiting Rudy's Facebook page and clicking the "Poll" tab. Facebook users can vote once a day throughout the competition. The charity with the most number of votes at midnight (CDT) on May 31st will receive 50% of the total funds raised during the month long fundraiser while the 1st and 2nd runners-up will receive 35% and 15% respectively.

Funds are raised from dollar donations made by Rudy's guests who purchase a large drink served in the special Rudy's camouflage designed cups that will feature the logos of its three charity partners.

"We are excited to have three renowned national charities that support our active duty military personnel and veterans and their families in very different ways," said Pete Bassett, VP of Operations at Rudy's Bar-B-Q. "We're confident our guests and Facebook fans will actively participate in this new, fun competition by voting for their charity of choice."

Rudy's Bar-B-Q's most recent Cup for a Cause last October raised more than $100,000 for the Young Survival Coalition, an international nonprofit focusing on women ages 40 and under.

Rudy's Bar-B-Q introduced its Cup for a Cause in October 2012 when it changed its iconic plastic cups into the color pink to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer. Since then, Rudy's Bar-B-Q has held Cup for a Cause fundraisers in May benefiting a military nonprofit and October benefiting a breast cancer charity.

The Internet of Things (IoT) promises to simplify and streamline our lives by automating routine tasks that distract us from our goals. This promise is based on the ubiquitous deployment of smart, connected devices that link everything from industrial control systems to automobiles to refrigerators.
