WORTHINGTON, Ohio, April 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Step By Step Academy, Inc. is now the proud owner of the former Harding Hospital 45 acre campus located in Worthington, Ohio. The Ohio State University had owned the property since 2003, and supports Step By Step's mission to expand services to the autism, developmental disabilities and mental health communities.
Providing services since 2002, Step By Step is a non-profit treatment center for children and adults with autism, developmental and mental health disorders. The nationally-accredited behavioral health program employs licensed and certified professionals who are leaders in psychiatric, mental health and behavioral health services for our special population. Currently, we provide behavioral health services to over 750 individuals from fifteen different Ohio counties. Step By Step educates and supports over 250 students; behavioral health services are intrinsic to our educational setting.
The Elijah Glen Center will support Step By Step's mission and offer crisis stabilization to our expanding menu of services. The Elijah Glen Center will offer short-term residential treatment to adolescents throughout Ohio who have autism and/or a developmental disability and are in crisis. Medical or behavioral professionals will be our referral source for the Center. This crisis de-escalation and step-down program will offer families an alternative to psychiatric hospitalization. The Center's director, Marla Root, states, "The Elijah Glen Center's goal is to open this summer and provide treatment to de-escalate crisis behavior and return adolescents home to their families at the earliest possible date. We will continue to support families after their adolescents return home to ensure safety, stability and permanence."
Please join Senator Bacon, the Worthington Community, and the Step By Step board, staff and families on Wednesday, April 16th at 4pm for our ribbon cutting event. We will offer tours of the Step By Step campus and The Elijah Glen Center. For more information or for an interview, please contact me at [email protected].
