NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 8, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Nancy Alcorn, Founder and President of Mercy Ministries, was a featured speaker at the inaugural "Women of Color in our Game – a Celebration" luncheon on Sunday, April 6, at Nashville's Omni Hotel, an event sponsored by the Black Coaches Association and Mercy Ministries. With standing room only, the luncheon was a huge success, attended by over 130 NCAA coaches and staff members who were in Nashville for the Women's Basketball Final Four Tournament, including Sue Semrau, president of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and long-time supporter of Mercy Ministries. Carol Owens, assistant head coach for Notre Dame University's women's basketball program and president of the Black Coaches Association spearheaded this first-ever luncheon of its kind to honor women who continue to "blaze trails" for NCAA Division I women's basketball. ESPN Commentator LaChina Robinson MC'd the event and presented awards. The "Woman of Impact" award was given to Felicia Hall Allen, President and CEO of Felicia Hall Allen & Associates, former team executive of the WNBA Charlotte Sting and a former University of Iowa basketball player. In addition, any BCA coach who had a winning season or won their division, was recognized. The keynote speaker for the event was Charmelle Green, Senior Associate Athletic Director at Penn State University.
Joining Alcorn at the luncheon were two young women currently in the residential counseling program at Mercy Ministries in Nashville, along with a Mercy Ministries' program graduate from 1997, all of whom were honored with a standing ovation.
