OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 04/08/14 -- The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, made the following statement today after Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the apprehension of Anthony Alexander Clarke, who was featured on the "Wanted by the CBSA" list and is inadmissible to Canada.
"Once again, the 'Wanted by the CBSA' program has proven to be an effective tool with continued success. This arrest sends a strong message that Canada is no safe haven for those who come to this country and have committed crimes. Our government will take every step to keep our streets and communities safe, and apprehend those who pose a threat to public safety.
I would especially like to thank Canadians and law enforcement agencies across the country for their ongoing support of our efforts to locate and arrest individuals who have committed serious crimes and are hiding in Canada."
Mr. Clarke was arrested in Toronto on March 29, 2014, after an investigation by the Toronto Immigration Task Force, which includes members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Canada Border Services Agency.
To date, as a result of the "Wanted by the CBSA" program, Canadians have assisted in locating 56 individuals in Canada, of which 43 have been removed. Additionally, 14 other individuals were located abroad.
