Third Northern California Location Driven by Client Demand and Thriving Market; Vice President Paul Erb Tapped as Office Lead

SAN FRANCISCO, CA and SAN JOSE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/09/14 -- McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. ("McCarthy"), the largest general contractor in California with Northern California offices in San Francisco and Sacramento, is opening a Silicon Valley office, effective May 15. Located at 2665 North First Street in San Jose, the office will offer greater accessibility to McCarthy's Peninsula and South Bay clients, such as Stanford University and the Irvine Company, and strategically position the company in one of the country's fastest-growing and most economically vibrant regions. Paul Erb, who has directed many of McCarthy's marquee projects throughout the Bay Area, was recently promoted to vice president of San Jose operations and will lead the office.

"Driven by growth in the technology and public sector industries, core competencies for McCarthy, the Silicon Valley is one of the most exciting construction markets in California. It's an area in which we've been building nearly 20 years, and in celebration of our 150th company anniversary, we are thrilled to open this full-service office and provide direct access for serving the quickly evolving needs of our clients in the region," said Rich Henry, McCarthy's Northern Pacific Division president. "We are a community builder, and we see great potential to contribute to the region's growth, particularly with healthcare, high-technology, research and development, laboratories, corporate office, parking structures, educational, correctional, and municipal facilities."

McCarthy has already delivered in excess of $1 billion worth of construction to the Peninsula and South Bay regions, including the Santa Clara Valley Medical Specialty Center in San Jose, Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System Mental Health Center, College of San Mateo Integrated Science Center and Planetarium, Maxim Headquarters in Sunnyvale, and the Nadev Printing Facility in Fremont. Currently, McCarthy is working with a market-leading technology client in the Silicon Valley area on its high-profile campus project worth $150 million; constructing a new parking structure for The Irvine Company in Santa Clara; heading up efforts on a laboratory renovation and two new student housing facilities worth $50 million on the Stanford University campus; and, in a joint venture with Clark Construction, building the Stanford University Medical Center's new Adult Hospital.

"At McCarthy, we are committed to providing an enhanced client experience by delivering innovative building solutions at each stage of the preconstruction and construction processes," said Erb. "We champion the utilization of technology and self-performing work in the field to ensure the highest level of quality, efficiency and cost-effective delivery. These services and our unique client-centric approach are the reasons we've grown exponentially in the region. In the Silicon Valley, we look forward to building both structures and long-lasting relationships within the industry and community."

Erb is a 15-year construction industry veteran. Most recently, he was project executive, ensuring effective management of high-performance projects throughout Northern California for clients that include Stanford University, Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and University of California, Berkeley. Under his leadership, the Silicon Valley office will offer general contracting, construction management, preconstruction and design-build services to a wide array of clients in the healthcare, technology, research and development, educational, governmental, industrial and biopharmaceutical industries, among others.

McCarthy is the nation's 8th largest domestic general contractor and is one of the largest employee-owned companies in America. 2014 marks McCarthy's 150th anniversary, as well as the 30th anniversary of its first divisional office in California.

"As our company reaches our 150th anniversary, it is fitting that we cement our position in the Bay Area's fastest-growing region," added Erb. "McCarthy is uniquely entrepreneurial as a 100 percent employee-owned company, which meshes well with the technology sector and other like-minded cultures that define this community."

DevOps is being widely accepted (if not fully adopted) as essential in enterprise IT. But as Enterprise DevOps gains maturity, expands scope, and increases velocity, the need for data-driven decisions across teams becomes more acute. DevOps teams in any modern business must wrangle the ‘digital exhaust’ from the delivery toolchain, "pervasive" and "cognitive" computing, APIs and services, mobile devices and applications, the Internet of Things, and now even blockchain.
