John Shegerian, Chairman and CEO of Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the nation’s leading recycler of electronic waste, was among the panelists of a group discussion on the important, innovation-driven role social media is playing in the world of recycling. The panel discussion took place this morning at the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) annual meeting at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas.
ISRI 2014 is the largest scrap recycling industry convention and trade show in the world and was attended by thousands of recycling industry leaders and professionals from hundreds of nations, gathering to network and discuss trends and challenges facing the scrap recycling industries today.
Today’s panel discussion, “Marketing Recycling Through Social Media” featured Shegerian alongside a marketing expert from The Firm Public Relations and Marketing, discussing the latest trends in social media and how digital communication can play a role in the recycling process.
Shegerian also discussed how innovative social media can be harnessed as a tool to help democratize the recycling process, something he knows about first hand. Shegerian and ERI are the creators of 1-800-Recycling, which features a popular, easy-to-use app and social media component that enables users to recycle virtually anything at a responsible location nearby.
“It’s an honor to have been asked to participate in this important discussion about how communication technology can benefit and advance the process of recycling,” said Shegerian. “It is particularly rewarding to be communicating and sharing ideas with my fellow green industry leaders, many of whom share our passion for innovation and exchanging ideas and experiences.”
“We’re so pleased to have had John Shegerian as one of our speakers at the event this year,” said Mark Carpenter, director of media relations and online communications at ISRI and session moderator. “John has a longstanding ability to successfully harness technology to spread the word about recycling opportunities and has a firm grasp on how to market through social media. As an innovative leader in the field he was an ideal speaker for the panel session that will benefit how the industry as a whole communicates.”
Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the world’s largest privately held recycler of electronic waste, is R2 and e-Stewards certified to de-manufacture and recycle every type of electronic waste in an environmentally friendly manner. ERI processes more than 275 million pounds of electronic waste annually at eight locations serving every zip code in the United States. One of the hottest areas in cloud right now is DRaaS and related offerings. In his session at 16th Cloud Expo, Dale Levesque, Disaster Recovery Product Manager with Windstream's Cloud and Data Center Marketing team, will discuss the benefits of the cloud model, which far outweigh the traditional approach, and how enterprises need to ensure that their needs are properly being met.
