Echostreams Partners with Mellanox and Enmotus Showcasing Tiered-Storage at National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show 2014 Booth# SL10810

Echostreams Innovative Solutions, LLC. today announced the FlacheSAN1, tiered SSD and HDD storage array OEM platform with 20x hot-swappable 6Gbps SATA drives, has achieved a new performance height by having four Flash SSD and 16 hard drives transmitting concurrently three 4K video resolutions concurrently each over FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand or 40Gb/s Ethernet with RoCE links, out of a single 1U tiered storage server. For high throughput applications such as post production workflow, ingesting, editing, color grading, and media rendering this system can sustain three 4K streams concurrently and improves users’ productivity.

“Echostreams’ adoption of Mellanox 56Gb/s Virtual Protocol Interconnect® adapter enables access to storage over RDMA which eliminates performance bottlenecks, associated with manipulations of very large size files, that are typically used in the broadcasting industry,” said Motti Beck, Director, Enterprise Market Development at Mellanox Technologies. “Using our most advanced interconnect makes the Echostreams’ FlacheSAN1 platform an extremely cost-effective but high performance white box OEM solution for this market.”

The Echostreams FlacheSAN1 solution employs a new class of real-time storage tiering software from Enmotus, allowing the platform to support a high performance hybrid storage configuration using standard off-the-shelf SSDs and HDDs at a substantially lower cost per terabyte than pure SSD based systems. “We are delighted that Echostreams has chosen to use our FuzeDrive™ software,” said Andy Mills, President and CEO of Enmotus, Inc. “FuzeDrive clearly demonstrates that tiered hybrid storage has an important role to play in even the most demanding storage applications, offering users SSD class performance with HDD capacities.”
