WASHINGTON, April 11, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:
APRIL 11: GASTRONOMIC MILESTONE
Profile America — Friday, April 11th. This week in 1955, a small hamburger restaurant opened in Des Plaines, Illinois–the first of what would become one of the world's best-recognized brand names — McDonald's. The franchise shop belonged Ray Kroc, whose main interest at the time was selling the machines that mixed milkshakes. The name came from two McDonald brothers who operated a hamburger shop in California. The first day's revenue at the Illinois franchise was $366 and 12 cents. That shop is now a museum housing artifacts from the growth of the chain into one of the most successful food-serving operations in history, having famously served billions of hamburgers in operations around the world. In the U.S. today, there are over 211,000 fast food outlets serving hamburgers and $151 billion worth of other comestibles per year. Profile America is in its 17th year as a public service of the U.S. Census Bureau.

With an estimated 50 billion devices connected to the Internet by 2020, several industries will begin to expand their capabilities for retaining end point data at the edge to better utilize the range of data types and sheer volume of M2M data generated by the Internet of Things. In his session at @ThingsExpo, Don DeLoach, CEO and President of Infobright, discussed the infrastructures businesses will need to implement to handle this explosion of data by providing specific use cases for filterin...

IoT generates lots of temporal data. But how do you unlock its value? You need to discover patterns that are repeatable in vast quantities of data, understand their meaning, and implement scalable monitoring across multiple data streams in order to monetize the discoveries and insights. Motif discovery and deep learning platforms are emerging to visualize sensor data, to search for patterns and to build application that can monitor real time streams efficiently. In his session at @ThingsExpo, ...
