LOS ANGELES, April 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Feiz, MD, FACS is known as an expert in all things related to the sleeve gastrectomy, from innovating a safer technique to combining the procedure with lap band revision surgery. The gastric sleeve procedure, which removes over 70% of the stomach, is one of Dr. Feiz' favorite treatment methods for morbid obesity, as it offers effective weight loss without complicating issues like lap band erosion. Moreover, studies have recently emerged that have corroborated Dr. Feiz' own personal experience; the sleeve gastrectomy surgery, as well as the gastric bypass, really can help obese patients reverse the symptoms of type 2 diabetes.
The Cleveland Clinic conducted the study—known as STAMPEDE (Surgical Therapy And Medications Potentially Eradicate Diabetes Efficiently)—which followed 150 obese patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes for over 8 years. 50 of these patients were treated with Advanced Medical Therapy (AMT), which is diet, exercise, and medication therapy, 50 received a gastric sleeve and AMT, and the remaining 50 had the gastric bypass procedure and AMT. The study, as any member of Dr. Feiz' staff can attest, found that the bariatric surgery treatments were much more effective at controlling diabetes than AMT alone.
In the study, bariatric surgery provided effective weight loss and health-boosting benefits. More specifically, these included:
- More than 5 times more weight loss than the control AMT group
- After 3 years, only 5 to 10 percent of the surgical group required insulin therapy, versus 55 percent of the AMT-only patients (actually an increase over this time period)
- Various health benefits for some weight loss patients, like lowered blood pressure and cholesterol
The doctors in charge of the study are hesitant to call bariatric surgery a type 2 diabetes cure just yet. However, they previously thought results like this were not possible; as Dr. Sangeeta Kashyap said in regards to the study, "Initially we thought diabetes was a disease you could not reverse or end." As evidenced by his impeccable track record of weight loss successes, including dozens of cases where type 2 diabetes symptoms are in remission, Dr. Feiz is more hopeful than ever for bariatric surgery's resurgence as a treatment for the disease.
The Gastric Sleeve and Dr. Feiz
Performed entirely through the use of laparoscope, Dr. Feiz' sleeve gastrectomy treatment gives patients a powerful tool to conquer their obesity. In many cases, Dr. Feiz has personally seen a full end to type 2 diabetes symptoms. Looking through his site's amazing Patient Stories pages reveals the personal side of weight loss surgery and how the gastric sleeve is changing lives. Dr. Feiz also believes after-care cannot be understated enough; he offers the services of a dedicated support staff and nutritionist to all of his patients, in addition to being personally accessible to patients in their times of need.
If you're struggling with obesity and the life-altering effects of type 2 diabetes, contact Dr. Feiz' office to learn more about weight loss surgery. Free seminars are scheduled on a regular basis and the office employs friendly, helpful professionals who will get you the information and assistance you want. With all the incredible momentum behind the Internet of Things (IoT) industry, it is easy to forget that not a single CEO wakes up and wonders if “my IoT is broken.” What they wonder is if they are making the right decisions to do all they can to increase revenue, decrease costs, and improve customer experience – effectively the same challenges they have always had in growing their business. The cloud. Like a comic book superhero, there seems to be no problem it can’t fix or cost it can’t slash. Yet making the transition is not always easy and production environments are still largely on premise. Taking some practical and sensible steps to reduce risk can also help provide a basis for a successful cloud transition. A plethora of surveys from the likes of IDG and Gartner show that more than 70 percent of enterprises have deployed at least one or more cloud application or workload. Y...

Microservices are a very exciting architectural approach that many organizations are looking to as a way to accelerate innovation. Microservices promise to allow teams to move away from monolithic "ball of mud" systems, but the reality is that, in the vast majority of organizations, different projects and technologies will continue to be developed at different speeds. How to handle the dependencies between these disparate systems with different iteration cycles? Consider the "canoncial problem"...

Too often with compelling new technologies market participants become overly enamored with that attractiveness of the technology and neglect underlying business drivers. This tendency, what some call the “newest shiny object syndrome” is understandable given that virtually all of us are heavily engaged in technology. But it is also mistaken. Without concrete business cases driving its deployment, IoT, like many other technologies before it, will fade into obscurity.
