Housing Market Trends For 2014 - Loan Love Predicts Changes For Borrowers

The article goes into further detail of the effects of each prediction. Experts have analyzed that this year will not be a repeat of last year's shortage and will be determined by two factors: new construction and the attraction of bring in more sellers to the market. That being said, loan borrowers shouldn't take the news as directly meaning an increase in housing prices. Rather, home buyers should expect prices to lean towards more traditional levels, which will ease the demand and which is considered good news to those seeking to purchase a home.

The housing market has also been predicted to shift in 2014, as the Loan Love states: "New home sales have not recovered quite as quickly, but are expected to continue to make progress in 2014, though there is likely to still be a significant gap between what occurs and the 700,00-a-year mark generally considered healthy. Construction will still not quite reach normal levels this year, but buyers can expect this segment to strengthen significantly."

One of the foreboding predictions that the article makes is that 2014 will encounter an increase in interest rates, with experts claiming that it may reach as high as 5 percent. Combined with tight mortgage loan requirement laws, home affordability is expected to decline this year, following the same trends as the previous year. Regardless, the Loan Love makes it clear that interest rates are still relatively low: "Prior to 2008, when the Fed made the decision to buy $85 billion in debt each month, the three-year average interest rate was a whopping 9.2 percent, never dipping under 5.8 percent."
