RedCap, a premium personal driver service that offers private transportation via members’ own vehicles, is now operating in the San Francisco Bay Area. Previously available only in South Florida, RedCap’s new West Coast flagship introduces Californians to personal driver services at competitive rates and offers members a more convenient, comfortable and affordable way of traveling between meetings, dinner parties, doctor’s appointments and the airport.
"Unlike Uber and Lyft that concentrate on those without cars, or people in urban areas where it is inconvenient to drive, RedCap focuses on the 80% of the population that lives outside big cities and typically owns and uses their vehicles daily,” said Co-Founder and CEO, David Zwick. "When given a choice, most people prefer the comfort of their own vehicle over a dirty cab or an expensive black car. With RedCap, members enjoy the amenities and convenience of their private car while being chauffeured when they cannot, should not, or prefer not to drive. We are democratizing the personal driver in suburban areas, and so far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive."
Unlike typical taxi, black car or ridesharing services, RedCap members are afforded the peace-of-mind of being driven, but in the solace of their own car. RedCap’s large pool of carefully screened and insured drivers can also run errands and take members’ vehicles in for service, differentiating RedCap from other transportation marketplaces. Free access to the service is available via the RedCap app with the option to upgrade to a premium paid account, which offers several perks, including priority access on holidays, discounted rates and the ability to maintain a preferred driver list.
The most recent round of funding was led by SoftTech VC and has helped to propel the Bay Area service launch and enhance iOS and Android App technology. Additional investors include SV Angel, Northgate Capital, Expansion Venture Capital, Scott Banister, Ben Ling, Bill Trenchard and Charlie Cheever.
Founded in 2010, RedCap is a premium personal driver service where users can select from carefully screened and insured drivers to transport them in the comfort and convenience of their own vehicles. Easily accessible via iOS and Android devices, RedCap provides an invaluable resource to members who want to communicate with drivers day and night to schedule safe and expedient rides to and from their destinations. RedCap currently operates in the San Francisco Bay area and South Florida's Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, with plans to expand nationwide underway.

The last decade was about virtual machines, but the next one is about containers. Containers enable a service to run on any host at any time. Traditional tools are starting to show cracks because they were not designed for this level of application portability. Now is the time to look at new ways to deploy and manage applications at scale. In his session at @DevOpsSummit, Brian “Redbeard” Harrington, a principal architect at CoreOS, will examine how CoreOS helps teams run in production. Attende...
