SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/15/14 -- Awarepoint Corporation, the largest real-time location system (RTLS) corporation dedicated exclusively to healthcare, announced the availability of a humidity-sensing tag after the completion of beta testing at UCSF Medical Center. The Awarepoint Humidity Tag monitors ambient room moisture in critical areas, eliminating manual logging, immediately notifying personnel of irregularities and increasing compliance with issue resolution documentation.
Awarepoint's humidity tags are part of a ZigBee®-based infrastructure and the aware360°Platform, which sends data to the aware360°Suite without burdening a facility's WiFi network. With this integration, staff has the ability to view status and trends in ambient room humidity, along with their other temperature-related assets and mobile medical equipment, from any computer or handheld device across their organization.
"In continuation with our efforts to assist clients in the delivery of high-quality care, the Awarepoint Humidity Tag's convenience and safety features are an extraordinary addition to our portfolio," said Merrie Wallace, Chief Nursing Officer and Executive Vice President of Product Solutions at Awarepoint. "It's another tool that empowers organizations to improve regulatory compliance while optimizing workflow and promoting safe and efficient care delivery."
Low humidity levels increase the risk for fire and static electricity in anesthetizing locations, and high humidity increases the risk for the growth of bacteria and molds -- both conditions pose a serious risk to patients. Out-of-range humidity readings can now be sent to staff members via email, text or pager, expediting awareness and resolution of the issue.
The Awarepoint Humidity Tag supports state and federal relative humidity monitoring documentation requirements for operating rooms, treatment rooms and other anesthetizing locations, sterile storage, pharmacies and laboratories. Awarepoint's humidity tags are easily secured to the walls of any room and wirelessly transmit humidity data to the network. The system also preserves humidity logs amidst network disruption, storing up to 96 hours of data locally.

Between 2005 and 2020, data volumes will grow by a factor of 300 – enough data to stack CDs from the earth to the moon 162 times. This has come to be known as the ‘big data’ phenomenon. Unfortunately, traditional approaches to handling, storing and analyzing data aren’t adequate at this scale: they’re too costly, slow and physically cumbersome to keep up. Fortunately, in response a new breed of technology has emerged that is cheaper, faster and more scalable. Yet, in meeting these new needs they...

Complete Internet of Things (IoT) embedded device security is not just about the device but involves the entire product’s identity, data and control integrity, and services traversing the cloud. A device can no longer be looked at as an island; it is a part of a system. In fact, given the cross-domain interactions enabled by IoT it could be a part of many systems. Also, depending on where the device is deployed, for example, in the office building versus a factory floor or oil field, security ha...
