Twin Fairs Close with Record Exhibitor Count

Hong Kong, Apr 17 - The Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) and the International ICT Expo attracted more than 92,000 buyers during their four-day run, 13-16 April.
Hong Kong, Apr 17, 2014 - (ACN Newswire) - More than 92,000 buyers from around the world took part in the 11th HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition) and the 11th HKTDC International ICT Expo, which ended yesterday at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The shows, which opened 13 April, drew more than 3,300 exhibitors from 25 countries and regions, setting a new record for the twin fairs.

Buyer Bonanza

Buyers came from more than 140 countries and regions. Aside from Hong Kong, the majority of buyers were from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan, the United States, Korea, Japan, Russia, India, Australia, Germany and the United Kingdom. At the Electronics Fair, most of the Asian countries and regions recorded an increase in attendance, including India, the mainland, Singapore and Taiwan. Buyer participation from several emerging markets recorded double-digit percentage growth, including the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Poland and Colombia.

Such well-known brands and retailers as Best Buy from the United States, China Mobile from the mainland, Groupon Korea and Hyundai Motor Group from Korea, Ozon.ru from Russia, SoftBank Mobile Corp from Japan and The Mall Group from Thailand sourced at the two fairs.

Small Orders a Hit

Benjamin Chau, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) Deputy Executive Director, said that sourcing sentiment was improving alongside the recovering global economy, with good demand for intelligent, green and wearable electronics products. Buyers also showed strong interest in placing "small and frequent orders."

The Small-Order Zone returned to the Electronics Fair with some 400 showcases, offering about 4,000 products with minimum orders ranging from five pieces to 1,000. The zone attracted more than 32,000 buyer visits during the four-day fair period, generating over 40,000 business enquiries.

Business Brisk at Fairs

Pedro Jimenez, Director Commercial of Spain's Electronica de Consumo, an importer and wholesaler of consumer electronics, attended the Electronics Fair. He said his company had placed US$350,000 worth of orders for tablets, smartphones and Bluetooth speakers with existing suppliers. He is now waiting for quotations from several suppliers, and hopes to purchase more products to satisfy market demand in Spain.

Mongkol Prechavanitsakul, General Manager - Retail, at Ensogo Co, Ltd, a leading online retailer in Thailand, said it was his company's first visit to the Electronics Fair. He had met a number of potential business partners and found a variety of innovative electronic gadgets and accessories.

Improving Sentiment

Susan Ng, Marketing Manager of Latitude, an Electronics Fair exhibitor, said she had met importers and retailers from around the world, including South America, Asia, Europe and the US. "The sourcing sentiment of buyers has improved," she said. "Some European buyers have returned, and are actively purchasing products. We expect our overall order quantity will increase this year."

Ken Lun, Sales Manager of Move Hand Workshop, a 3D printer retailer, said he was participating at the fair for the first time and had met many buyers from the Asia-Pacific region. "We demonstrated our 3D printer, and it attracted the attention of many potential buyers. We've received a trial order from an Australian computer accessories wholesaler interested in being the licensee of our 3D printer and distributing to Asia-Pacific markets."

International brand Ford was a first-time exhibitor at the Electronics Fair. Frank Kauer, Managing Director of Ford's licensee, SKN Global Ltd, said the company supplies a full range of home appliances. The company was looking for distributors to develop Asian markets. Buying demand was good, he said, adding that the company had met several potential partners at the fair.

Online Promise

John Lui, Global Internet marketing consultant and founder of johnlui.com, one of the exhibitors at ICT Expo, said his company was a Google partner, and that he had met many SME online retailers at the fair. With lower costs through the digital marketing channel, he hoped to expand his markets and customer base.

A strange thing is happening along the way to the Internet of Things, namely far too many devices to work with and manage. Detecting internal user threats in the Big Data eco-system is challenging and cumbersome. Many organizations monitor internal usage of the Big Data eco-system using a set of alerts. This is not a scalable process given the increase in the number of alerts with the accelerating growth in data volume and user base. Organizations are increasingly leveraging machine learning to monitor only those data elements that are sensitive and critical, autonomously establish monitoring policies, and to detect...

DevOps is often described as a combination of technology and culture. Without both, DevOps isn't complete. However, applying the culture to outdated technology is a recipe for disaster; as response times grow and connections between teams are delayed by technology, the culture will die. A Nutanix Enterprise Cloud has many benefits that provide the needed base for a true DevOps paradigm.
Most DevOps journeys involve several phases of maturity. Research shows that the inflection point where organizations begin to see maximum value is when they implement tight integration deploying their code to their infrastructure. Success at this level is the last barrier to at-will deployment. Storage, for instance, is more capable than where we read and write data. In his session at @DevOpsSummit at 20th Cloud Expo, Josh Atwell, a Developer Advocate for NetApp, will discuss the role and valu...
