Employee Volunteerism Program a Key Part of Creating a Best Workplace Environment

BRAMPTON, ON--(Marketwired - April 17, 2014) - Medtronic of Canada Ltd. (Medtronic), a trusted Canadian leader in innovative medical technologies and health system solutions, has been recognized as one of Canada's Best Large Workplaces for 2014, as part of the Great Place to Work® Institute's annual competition. This special designation recognizes the Top 50 large and multinational companies with more than 1,000 employees worldwide. It is based primarily on a survey of employees, which generates a Trust Index© score, and is combined with a Culture Audit© to determine the winners.

As part of its Culture Audit, Medtronic of Canada was recognized by the Great Place to Work® Institute for its extensive employee initiatives, including the employee volunteerism programs that are run through its foundation. Mission in Motion, Project 6, and Volunteer Matching Grants are all programs run through Medtronic Philanthropy, which focuses on supporting health initiatives in communities where Medtronic employees live and give. "Our Mission in Motion program offers employees and retirees who volunteer more than 25 hours a year a $500 volunteer grant to their designated charity," says André Guérin, Director of Human Resources. "This program is very well supported and utilized by our employees and represents our Medtronic Traits, including inspiring others, mission values and external focus."

"We are very proud to be recognized as one of Canada's Best Workplaces for the fourth year in a row," said Neil Fraser, President of Medtronic of Canada. "The fact that this award is based on candid, anonymous feedback from employees is particularly significant. I believe it reflects the dedication of our employees to the Medtronic mission -- alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending life."

The recognition of Canada's Best Large Workplaces for 2014 is one of many honours Medtronic of Canada has received over the last few years. Since 2011, Medtronic was ranked as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers and a Top Employer in the GTA each year, and a Best Employer for New Canadians since 2012 by Media Corp.
