BOSTON, April 18, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Boston Globe reports that, due to the ruling of a federal judge, "Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev may be able to get visits from his family in prison without being monitored by an FBI agent." Yet Justina Pelletier is unable to have unmonitored visits with her parents, or even to celebrate Easter with them at all. All visits between Justina and her family are strictly supervised by DCF agents and armed state troopers.
"While the Boston Marathon bomber may be able to see his family unsupervised, Justina Pelletier cannot. While she remains in the custody of DCF she will have to spend Easter separated from her family. While children around the world get to spend this special time with family celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus, Justina remains isolated and alone. This insanity must quickly end," said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel.
According to court documents, Justina Pelletier has expressed the desire to attend mass, but during her 14 months in DCF custody, has been prevented from exercising her religious liberties. The Pelletier family, who are Catholic, are concerned that Justina has not been allowed to see a priest or attend mass on Christmas Eve, Christmas, or Easter.
Thursday morning Jennifer Pelletier asked a representative of DCF why the family couldn't take Justina to Easter Mass this Sunday. The answer, she said: "Because we're not open."
"Governor Deval Patrick has the executive power to pardon convicted criminals with the stroke of a pen, yet ignores the plight of an innocent, sick adolescent in state care. It's a dereliction of duty that Governor Patrick has not taken action to free Justina into the loving arms of her family," commented Rev. Patrick Mahoney, a spokesperson for the Pelletier Family.
