Vitalbox Scales Preventive Health Platform with Progress Solution

Progress (NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced that Brazil-based Vitalbox has successfully launched its Personal Health Platform using Progress® technologies. The Vitalbox solution is designed to enhance individual healthcare while also reducing medical costs by providing a personal health map and alerts. Progress has enabled Vitalbox to easily manage the customized profiles of thousands of users more effectively than with traditional database and software techniques. As a result, the social business is now planning to introduce its low-cost preventative healthcare tools in countries around the world.

As the world’s population continues to increase, grow older and develop chronic diseases earlier, providers are challenged with making healthcare more accessible, effective and affordable.

Vitalbox’s Personal Health Platform, benefits both patients and caregivers by providing a health map that uses a patient’s medical history and lifestyle to calculate the chance of developing chronic conditions, and then proposes actions to reduce risks. Alerts are delivered to the patient if bodily measurements reach certain thresholds. For instance, if a user’s cholesterol is too high, he or she will receive a notification to schedule an appointment with his or her doctor.

A few months after its initial launch, more than 16,000 people in Brazil were using the tool. This spike in users produced structured and unstructured data which Vitalbox had to manage and store as each user entered their personal health issues, goals and measurements. Manually coding rules for each individual profile to push out personalized information, notifications and advice was significantly slowing the company down. Vitalbox turned to Progress for help deploying an automated, cloud-based business rules management system.

The Progress Corticon Business Rules Management System (BRMS) – a component of the Progress Pacific PaaS platform delivered exactly what they needed: high-quality, high-fidelity, high-performance, automated business decisions and increased agility of decision change processes. As a result of the successful deployment, Vitalbox is now looking to expand from 16,000 to 600,000 users – a 375% increase. With the Progress software, they significantly reduced the time to market and can now develop and deploy a new rule in 10 minutes versus the previous six-hour timescale. They also expect to reduce development and maintenance cycles by 90%.
