WASHINGTON, April 23, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Women Construction Owners and Executives (WCOE) are coming off the heels of a successful conference recently held in Washington, DC and are rallying support for a bill sponsored by Representatives Marsha Blackburn and Carolyn Maloney. Members of WCOE were in attendance at the Committee on the House Administration's passage of H.R. 863, the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Women's History Museum Act of 2013. The bill was passed on a voice vote. WCOE carved out time during their national conference for legislative outreach to urge congressional members and other groups to support women's issues that are pending before congress, including this bill. As a result of the combined efforts of WCOE and supporters of the NWHM the bipartisan legislation now has 94 cosponsors. "Legislative outreach was part of our purpose for being in Washington. During our conference we honored several deserving influential women, including Representative Maloney for her significant contributions, which the bill, H.R. 863 embodies," said Lee Cunningham, President of WCOE. Attendees were treated to a High Tea Kick-Off Celebration at the Willard Intercontinental Hotel, the official conference hotel, a Gala Award 30th Year Anniversary Dinner at the Sewall Belmont House, a day of contracting sessions with representatives from the SBA, NSA, GSA, Department of Energy, Veteran Affairs, and a keynote address from The Honorable Katherine Hammack, Assistant Secretary of the Army, who oversees Military Construction. On the last day WCOE members gathered on Capitol Hill where they signed a memorandum with Dan Richards, President of the California High Speed Rail Authority, which was aimed at securing a place for women-owned construction firms to be included in current and future job opportunities as California moves forward on expanding its rail transportation system.
WCOE is now making plans for their mid-year conference to be held later this year in Chicago. To learn more please visit the website at: http://www.wcoeusa.org
