Sheire, based in Washington, D.C., will discuss strategies for improving the privacy and security of online transactions to thwart online fraud and identity theft.
The symposium will also feature panel discussions focused on cloud, big data, payments and general digital security issues with insights from nearly 20 security and IT professionals from local technology companies, banks and law firms as well as the U.S. Secret Service. Sessions will include:
- Industry Trends in Cybersecurity, including the impact on software developers and the resulting shifts in CIO/CTO budgets;
- Securing Big Data, addressing data ownership and protection questions as well as the implications for privacy and international businesses;
- Keeping Customer Accounts and Payments Secure, covering the causes of credit card data breaches plus the future of mobile wallets and other payment authorization and authentication methodologies; and
- Is the Cloud Really More Secure than On-Premise?, offering an examination of cloud security issues and the cloud vs. on-premise decision.
Focused on addressing a key concern of technology companies and technology departments, the event is open to industry executives. It is sponsored by Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP.
"Digital security breaches seem to be in the news every day, from corporate network infiltration to stolen credit card information. Data security is therefore a major concern that keeps technology companies up at night," said ITA CEO Fred Hoch. "We arranged this symposium to help ITA members and other local technology businesses learn how others are addressing these threats and stay abreast of the latest strategies for protecting their organizations."
The ITA Security Symposium will be held from 8:30 am to 5 pm at the new TechNexus technology collaborative space at 20 North Wacker Drive, Suite 1200, Chicago. It is free for ITA members and $40 for non-members. Register at https://www.illinoistech.org/events/63001 or email Meghan Bradley at [email protected] with questions.

DevOps has often been described in terms of CAMS: Culture, Automation, Measuring, Sharing. While we’ve seen a lot of focus on the “A” and even on the “M”, there are very few examples of why the “C" is equally important in the DevOps equation. In her session at @DevOps Summit, Lori MacVittie, of F5 Networks, will explore HTTP/1 and HTTP/2 along with Microservices to illustrate why a collaborative culture between Dev, Ops, and the Network is critical to ensuring success.

The IoT market is on track to hit $7.1 trillion in 2020. The reality is that only a handful of companies are ready for this massive demand. There are a lot of barriers, paint points, traps, and hidden roadblocks. How can we deal with these issues and challenges? The paradigm has changed. Old-style ad-hoc trial-and-error ways will certainly lead you to the dead end. What is mandatory is an overarching and adaptive approach to effectively handle the rapid changes and exponential growth.
