Upp Portable Fuel Cell - the Clean Energy Alternative for Powering USB Devices Receives Industry Certification

Intelligent Energy, the international power technology company, today announced that its innovative Upp™ personal energy device has achieved IEC 62282-6-100 micro fuel cell technology certification and ISO 16111:2008, which together allows the product to be distributed internationally.

Building on the company’s innovative proprietary fuel cell technology, Upp – a consumer electronic device - can charge and power USB-compatible mobile electronic devices, such as smartphones, feature phones, eReaders, tablets, portable gaming consoles and digital cameras as fast as the mains. Upp typically provides five charges to even the most demanding, power-hungry smartphones.

Upp – the clean alternative

The Upp fuel cell takes hydrogen provided by the Upp cartridge and combines it with air to produce clean electricity on demand. Users simply need to connect the fuel cell to a replaceable cartridge to achieve instant energy for their devices.

Upp companion mobile app

The Upp mobile app communicates with the Upp product and includes a number of proprietary features such as:

  • Smart Charging - automatically powers down when a connected USB device is fully charged
  • Eco Mode – allows users to select the battery level they want to charge to, to simply top-up to optimum levels rather than fully charge
  • Find Cartridges - uses GPS to locate the nearest local Upp cartridge exchange outlet when needed
  • Flight Mode - prevents continuous charging when phone is in airplane mode
  • Cartridge Level Indicator – indicates remaining energy left for peace of mind
  • Your Energy – a window on your remaining battery level and what it can be used for (e.g. calls, music, browsing and video)
  • Support – direct access to product support pages and customer service
  • Personalisation – allows users to name their device

The free Upp companion app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store (iOS 6 and higher) or from Google play for Android devices (Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and higher).

Upp is compliant with standards IEC 62282-6-100 and ISO 16111:2008 as well as EU and US EMC directives. Carriage on aircraft is subject to local safety and security procedures.
