REDWOOD CITY, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/29/14 -- Congresswoman Jackie Speier, who represents California's 14th Congressional District, met with C3 Energy executives last week to discuss how the latest developments in information technology are being applied to the power grid, helping to resolve critical issues of energy reliability, efficiency, and safety. According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the total value of smart grid technologies to US utilities and their customers is estimated at $65 to 100 billion per year.
The ranking member of the Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee on Energy Policy, Health Care, and Entitlements, Congresswoman Speier has long been outspoken on issues involving U.S. energy independence, safety, and efficiency, and has been a strong advocate of technological innovations that help to ensure secure, reliable, and affordable energy for all Americans.
"The smart grid and the volumes of data that it provides represent a tremendous opportunity to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of energy delivery," said Congresswoman Speier.
Congresswoman Speier and Tom Siebel, CEO of C3 Energy, discussed the ways in which information technology can help the energy industry address critical issues such as power outages, reducing peak loads, energy efficiency, and the proactive identification of grid assets at risk of failure. As part of the discussion, Congresswoman Speier reviewed the C3 Energy suite of analytics applications, which are in use today at over fifteen utilities, including some of the largest energy providers in the United States and in Europe.
"As a longtime leader in Silicon Valley, Congresswoman Speier has been at the forefront of issues involving energy and information technology," said Tom Siebel. "She provides an experienced perspective on the safety, policy, and information technology challenges facing the energy industry and how C3 Energy can contribute to this important dialogue."
