Business Wire today announced the launch of the Picture Capsule, a digital content marketing platform that turns still images and news photos into visually interactive marketing tools that are designed to increase user engagements while tracking all interactions. The Picture Capsule employs overlay technology which allows the placement of custom icons on digital images that when hovered over, open links to additional content.

“Every news photo and still image can now be fully interactive marketing tools,” said Laura Sturaitis, Business Wire’s EVP Media Services and Product Strategy. “The Picture Capsule adds tremendous value to a still image. Clients can now tell a complete story from a single picture.”
Conventionally, news release photos have been static images, providing no opportunity to discover more about the story without leaving the announcement page. With the Picture Capsule, engagement is increased by providing journalists, consumers and influencers multiple content files, including videos, audio, documents, images, social sharing and links to other websites, all within a single image. The Picture Capsule can be shared via one embeddable link that enables users to publish the interactive branded image to websites, blogs and social media channels.
Every interaction with every piece of content in the Picture Capsule is monitored and measured. Clients receive access to a real-time dashboard that provides in-depth metrics on views, shares, engagements and more. Beta versions of the Picture Capsule have delivered engagement rates that exceed static images by 20 to 100 times.
The Picture Capsule is powered by NextWorks, developer of the Content Capsule™ interactive content marketing platform.
“Clients are calling the Picture Capsule one of the most innovative sales and marketing tools they have seen,” said Tim Bahr, CEO, NextWorks. “We are thrilled that Business Wire is making the Picture Capsule available to their global client base. The traditional news photo will never be the same.”
