Zodiac Interactive Adds Video Broadcast System to PowerUp Suite

Industry's First Hybrid QAM/IP Software Stack to Power Legacy, tru2way, and Next-Generation HTML5 Ecosystems, Unshackles Service Providers, and Unifies All Connected Devices and Generations of Platforms

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/29/14 -- (BOOTH ES-8) - Today from the 2014 NCTA Cable Show, Zodiac Interactive (http://www.zodiac.tv), an Emmy® award-winning developer of software for interactive television (iTV), announced the general availability of the PowerUp Video Broadcast Solution (PVBS), the industry's first hybrid QAM/IP Digital Video Broadcast System capable of powering legacy, tru2way, and next generation HTML5 ecosystems.

PowerUp VBS, which is in the process of being deployed with two of the largest video service providers in North America, unifies the basic television operations with the middleware services layer and the presentation layer (browser based for HTML5 or native for legacy) and provides the industry's only universal, single stack capable of operating all managed devices. Applications and services are created once and then delivered ubiquitously across all ecosystems. The ability to introduce a universal software solution for every managed device provides for unprecedented control of resources and application development for the service provider.

"PowerUp VBS unifies the variety of unique hardware-based technology platforms. Now, for the first time, there is a single unifying software stack that is capable of supporting Arris, Cisco, HTML5, tru2way, and the RDK, thus extending legacy usefulness while transitioning to next generation technology," said Zodiac CEO, Brandon Brown.

Zodiac's PowerUp product suite frees operators from previous technological constraints, and empowers them with the flexibility to adapt and accommodate the market's changing needs far more quickly and cost-effectively.

Further, the Power Up product suite supports and embraces both existing and emerging standards including W3C, OPIF, HTML5, DLNA, etc. In addition, our support for the RDK continues unabated and has existed since Zodiac Interactive contributed to the RDK's creation.

"PowerUp VBS is changing the industry paradigm with its ability to impact all generations of devices and platforms," continued Brandon Brown. "And very important to note, is that PowerUp VBS enhances the existing PowerUp product suite, creating a complete, end-to-end solution from silicon to consumer user interface," commented Brandon Brown.

Zodiac is working with Charter Communications on their next generation, cloud-based user interface, for interoperability on next generation managed devises, and the 40+ models of existing managed devices.

As part of its continuing relationship with Cablevision, the company's Optimum Program Guide, powered by the PowerUp Platform has been successfully deployed on all of the company's managed devices. Zodiac is currently readying PowerUp for HTML5 for future deployment of the Optimum Program Guide across Cablevision's managed devices, furthering the company's commitment to its cloud-based strategy.

"For years, we have been honored to work with some of the North America's largest video service providers, like Cablevision and Charter, and to help them deliver the most advanced, interactive television and engaging media experience to their subscribers," added Brandon Brown. "Today's announcement signifies the collaborative nature of our longstanding relationships, as well as the totality and universality of our software, services and solutions."

Detecting internal user threats in the Big Data eco-system is challenging and cumbersome. Many organizations monitor internal usage of the Big Data eco-system using a set of alerts. This is not a scalable process given the increase in the number of alerts with the accelerating growth in data volume and user base. Organizations are increasingly leveraging machine learning to monitor only those data elements that are sensitive and critical, autonomously establish monitoring policies, and to detect...
"We're a cybersecurity firm that specializes in engineering security solutions both at the software and hardware level. Security cannot be an after-the-fact afterthought, which is what it's become," stated Richard Blech, Chief Executive Officer at Secure Channels, in this SYS-CON.tv interview at @ThingsExpo, held November 1-3, 2016, at the Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, CA.
Most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall. As with most new architectures, this dream takes a lot of work to become a reality. Even when you do get your application componentized enough and packaged properly, there are still challenges for DevOps teams to making the shift to continuous delivery and achieving that reduction in cost ...
Enterprise architects are increasingly adopting multi-cloud strategies as they seek to utilize existing data center assets, leverage the advantages of cloud computing and avoid cloud vendor lock-in. This requires a globally aware traffic management strategy that can monitor infrastructure health across data centers and end-user experience globally, while responding to control changes and system specification at the speed of today’s DevOps teams. In his session at 20th Cloud Expo, Josh Gray, Chie...
To get the most out of their data, successful companies are not focusing on queries and data lakes, they are actively integrating analytics into their operations with a data-first application development approach. Real-time adjustments to improve revenues, reduce costs, or mitigate risk rely on applications that minimize latency on a variety of data sources. Jack Norris reviews best practices to show how companies develop, deploy, and dynamically update these applications and how this data-first...

You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.

DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...
