MAKE Announces MakerCon, New Conference for Makers, May 13-14, at the Oracle Conference Center

Two-Day Event Focuses on the Impact of the Maker Movement on Community, Business and Technology

SEBASTOPOL, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 04/30/14 -- Over fifty leaders of the maker movement will join MAKE in hosting a conversation about the impact that trends like the rapid prototyping, lean startup models, citizen science, and emerging technology and tools are bringing to bear on communities, education and business. The first MakerCon, presented by Intel, will be held at the Oracle Conference Center in Redwood City on May 13-14, the week leading up to Maker Faire in the Bay Area, May 17-18 in San Mateo. A conference by and for makers, the new event acknowledges the disruptive effects, practical insights, and impact the maker movement is having across a broad spectrum, from local and global manufacturing, to design, workforce development, and education, as well as creative culture.

"Today we have a number of hardware startups combining physical and digital computing, as well as new technologies that did not exist several years ago that provide us with new ways of making things. Over the two days, individuals at the forefront of the maker movement, from experts in digital manufacturing, to technology and tools providers, to accelerators that facilitate taking a prototype to market, and a broad swath of makers, will convene and connect with each other. The event will kick off with a number of three-hour workshops Tuesday morning on:

  • Design for Manufacturing, presented by Scott Miller, CEO and founder of Dragon Innovation

Themed sessions begin following lunch in a multi-track format giving attendees options based on their specific interests and information needs. The popular Innovation Showcase and reception, featuring over 20 early stage startups and new products, as well as prototypes, caps off Tuesday evening. Wednesday's packed agenda includes over 20 sessions across multiple themes, including panels and workshops.
