Citrix Unveils NetScaler MobileStream Technology

Today at Citrix Synergy™, Citrix announced the availability of NetScaler® MobileStream™ technology, which significantly improves mobile network and application performance along with network visibility, while tightening security for both the enterprise and the end user. With the explosion of mobile devices in business and the relentless growth of consumerization, IT has started to explicitly embrace a mobile-first agenda. In fact, according to industry analysts, 77 percent of enterprises state that providing mobility support for employees inside and outside the office is a strategic network priority. NetScaler MobileStream improves data security and mobility support, delivering the most advanced cloud and mobile networking capabilities in the industry. Coupled with the broader Mobile Workspace Suite, only Citrix offers the purpose-built mobile networking functionality that creates a complete end-to-end solution for truly empowering mobile workstyles.

Five Times Improvement in Mobile App Performance

In today’s mobile environment, the performance of mobile services directly impacts workforce productivity. NetScaler MobileStream improves productivity by significantly reducing application delivery times to mobile devices. NetScaler intelligently optimizes the amount of data to be downloaded, with multi-layer optimization for content streaming that maximizes mobile page downloads and rendering. NetScaler MobileStream also improves mobile performance by virtually eliminating the impact of sporadic connectivity caused by legacy communication technologies and website designs. NetScaler MobileStream transparently leverages wireless and cellular connectivity with intelligent dual network mode technology. This results in mobile apps loading and running five times faster, enabling people to be much more productive and unleashing new levels of user delight.

In addition, NetScaler also includes Citrix’s unique TriScale® technology, powering the world’s largest clouds, to deploy mobile services with a cloud-first architecture. In response to the mobile device explosion, Citrix has more than doubled the performance levels of TriScale this year.

Unmatched Visibility for Improved Mobile Service Delivery

NetScaler MobileStream is fully integrated with NetScaler Insight Center™, a unique IT control point that enables deep visibility into mobile network traffic streams. NetScaler Insight Center provides a simple, easy way to monitor and control mobile traffic, providing clear visibility into apps and device activity patterns for rapid resolution of network issues and improved service delivery. Only Citrix offers the unique combination of capabilities in NetScaler Insight Center and NetScaler MobileStream that deliver high performance mobile networking to enterprises and service providers.

Granular Mobile Security to Protect Business IP

NetScaler MobileStream also includes security features that enable the protection of mobile applications, data and the datacenter network. NetScaler MobileStream provides flexible per-app and per-user access management controls that enable secure mobile access and also help eliminate mobile data leaks to unauthorized mobile devices. According to industry analysts, 90 percent of IT decision makers still believe that the number one concern for IT is data security. NetScaler MobileStream technologies provide a single point from which access to corporate applications and data is enforced, while also protecting corporate applications and data themselves with built-in protocol, app and information assurance.

NetScaler MobileStream will be available in Q2 2014.

Charles Kanavel, CIO, Diocese of San Jose

“We chose NetScaler because of its outstanding performance. With our schools increasingly relying on mobile web and web apps, the security and additional performance that comes from the NetScaler MobileStream technology is exactly what is needed in today’s competitive educational landscape. Bring Your Own Device is a growing trend within our Diocesan schools. We have seen increased student involvement as they are using their own devices and are able to better personalize them. Additionally, we are embracing this trend because it produces significant cost savings as we do not have to furnish devices in 1:1 programs. Our NetScaler technology plays a critical role in supporting the network and application traffic demand generated by these new devices on campus, and from home."

Buğra Gümüş, director, networking, Exclusive Networks

“Our existing customers have implemented Citrix NetScaler MobileStream in their test networks with their applications, and have found a significant increase in time to load to client browsers. Specifically, customers have noted that the optimization updates have dramatically decreased application latency.”

Bob Laliberte, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group

“As the demand for mobile devices continues to move forward at an increasingly rapid pace, the ability for the network to support this growth is essential. NetScaler is poised to address this trend by delivering secure and optimized mobile networking capabilities.”

Sunil Potti, vice president and general manager, NetScaler Product Group, Citrix

"Citrix NetScaler MobileStream not only delivers the capabilities enterprises and service providers need to address the exponential growth of mobile device use, it also empowers IT to bring delight to end users by optimizing their mobile experiences over any device while enabling fine grain control over corporate data. Citrix is the only company in the industry today that can support an end-to-end mobile workspace solution that tightly integrates enterprise mobile application and device management with service delivery networks optimized for mobile application delivery.”

Fifty billion connected devices and still no winning protocols standards. HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT, and CoAP seem to be leading in the IoT protocol race at the moment but many more protocols are getting introduced on a regular basis. DevOps is speeding towards the IT world like a freight train and the hype around it is deafening. There is no reason to be afraid of this change as it is the natural reaction to the agile movement that revolutionized development just a few years ago. By definition, DevOps is the natural alignment of IT performance to business profitability. The relevance of this has yet to be quantified but it has been suggested that the route to the CEO’s chair will come from the IT leaders that successfully ma...
The Internet of Things (IoT), in all its myriad manifestations, has great potential. Much of that potential comes from the evolving data management and analytic (DMA) technologies and processes that allow us to gain insight from all of the IoT data that can be generated and gathered. This potential may never be met as those data sets are tied to specific industry verticals and single markets, with no clear way to use IoT data and sensor analytics to fulfill the hype being given the IoT today.
More and more brands have jumped on the IoT bandwagon. We have an excess of wearables – activity trackers, smartwatches, smart glasses and sneakers, and more that track seemingly endless datapoints. However, most consumers have no idea what “IoT” means. Creating more wearables that track data shouldn't be the aim of brands; delivering meaningful, tangible relevance to their users should be. We're in a period in which the IoT pendulum is still swinging. Initially, it swung toward "smart for smar...

WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.

Enterprise IT has been in the era of Hybrid Cloud for some time now. How should enterprise IT executives and buyers define their focus, needs, and roadmap, and communicate that clearly to the providers?
