Have you ever gone to an emergency department or urgent care for a non-emergency because your doctor wasn’t available? It’s certainly not anyone’s preferred place for routine care. Now patients can get care anytime, anywhere with 24/7 access to doctors online and over the phone with virtual visits from Priority Health. Through a partnership with MDLIVETM, Priority Health is one of the first statewide health insurers to offer virtual visits to its members.
“Each year, nearly 80 percent of our members have a health concern that can be treated using virtual visits – ultimately saving them both time and money,” said Michael P. Freed, president and CEO for Priority Health. “At Priority Health we’re committed to improving the health and lives of our members by giving them access to the best care anytime, anywhere.”
Priority Health members with health concerns such as sore throats or sinus infections can use virtual visits. They simply log into their account on priorityhealth.com to set up a doctor visit. They can choose to consult with the physician either by video chat or by phone.
“It’s a great option for members who may otherwise go to the emergency room or urgent care center for minor health concerns, are traveling, or aren’t able to visit their regular doctor,” Freed said.
“MDLIVE is pleased that we are collaborating with one of the most progressive health plans in the country,” said Randy Parker, CEO of MDLIVE. “Priority Health’s membership provides a unique opportunity for MDLIVE to deliver both convenient and high-quality services throughout Michigan.”
Once a Priority Health member logs on to MDLIVE, they can select any of the doctors available during the appointment time they request. All MDLIVE doctors are U.S. Board Certified and able to write patients prescriptions for their care.
“We have been a longtime supporter of virtual visits offered by providers with this capability,” said Freed. “Now we have taken it one step further by adding easy access right on our website.”
Virtual visits – through MDLIVE or providers who offer this service – are yet another example of Priority Health’s commitment to offering effective and affordable health care to members. Priority Health was the first health plan in Michigan to publish specific procedure costs with its innovative Healthcare Blue Book tool, and it recently announced a statewide rollout of its Home-Based Primary Care program, which delivers care to the homes of patients with advanced chronic illness.
