Meeting international standards of excellence, Tinley Park is the First City in Illinois with an Accredited Economic Development Organization through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
Jeff Finkle, President and CEO of IEDC in Washington, D.C., presented the recognition to Tinley Park Mayor Edward Zabrocki and Trustee David Seaman during the Tinley Park Annual Business Breakfast on May 7.
Tinley Park Economic Development is one of only 41 Internationally Accredited Economic Development Organizations in North America. AEDO agencies are currently located throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada, and must meet strict guidelines in business development, management, and planning.
“Tinley Park has an exemplary economic development program…displaying the professionalism, commitment, and technical expertise that is deserving of this honor,” said Mr. Finkle. Tinley Park is also the only community in the nation to be named both “National Winner for Economic Development Excellence” by the U.S. Department of Commerce, and “America’s Best Place to Raise a Family” by Bloomberg Business Week.
“Accreditation demonstrates that Tinley Park Economic Development is meeting the benchmarks of excellence our businesses and citizens deserve,” said Trustee David Seaman.
In the accreditation review, Tinley Park Economic Development was recognized for achieving significant business development success, maintaining a clear development policy for over 40 years, securing sustainable economic diversity, and operating with cost efficiency. The AEDO comprehensive peer review process measured Tinley Park against best practice standards in the profession.
Located on Chicago’s Interstate 80 Corridor, financially strong Tinley Park (population 57,000) has also distinguished itself with tremendous business and income growth, over 1,400 businesses, one of the most diversified economies in the Midwest, and one of the Top Municipal Credit Ratings in the nation. The International Economic Development Council is the largest membership association serving economic and community development professionals in the world.
