AUSTIN, TX -- (Marketwired) -- 05/07/14 -- Austin Cancer Centers, Austin's largest physician-led oncology practice, has opened a new chemotherapy clinic. The clinic is located inside Austin Cancer Centers' Breast and Oncology Clinic in Central Austin at Park St. David's.
The chemotherapy clinic was built in response to patients' needs in Central Austin. Patients will now benefit from the convenience of receiving chemotherapy treatments in the same office where they visit their surgical oncologist, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist.
Besides the use of traditional chemotherapies, oncologists at Austin Cancer Center will be able to treat patients with state of the art biologic therapies. These newer biologic therapies not only target specific genes or mutations in cancer, they are also more efficient and less toxic than traditional chemotherapy, which is associated with hair loss, nausea, vomiting and fatigue.
"We are committed to providing the highest level of patient-centered cancer care. Every patient is unique and being able to provide alternative types of therapy including immunotherapy, gene therapy and other targeted therapies means we can be more effective in fighting cancer while lessening certain side effects caused by cancer treatments," said Sanjay Vin, MD, Medical Oncologist, Austin Cancer Centers.
"The new chemo clinic gives patients one stop for our full range of services, including surgical, medical, radiation oncology and patient navigation. This improves the patient's access to their team of physicians and helps decrease their stress associated with treatment," said Allison Gorrebeeck, MD, Medical Oncologist with Austin Cancer Centers.

WebRTC is about the data channel as much as about video and audio conferencing. However, basically all commercial WebRTC applications have been built with a focus on audio and video. The handling of “data” has been limited to text chat and file download – all other data sharing seems to end with screensharing. What is holding back a more intensive use of peer-to-peer data? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, WebRTC Applications Team Lead at National ICT Australia, will look at di...

Mobile messaging has been a popular communication channel for more than 20 years. Finnish engineer Matti Makkonen invented the idea for SMS (Short Message Service) in 1984, making his vision a reality on December 3, 1992 by sending the first message ("Happy Christmas") from a PC to a cell phone. Since then, the technology has evolved immensely, from both a technology standpoint, and in our everyday uses for it. Originally used for person-to-person (P2P) communication, i.e., Sally sends a text...
