SHI International Corp., one of North America's top 20 largest IT solutions providers, today announced earnings of $1.12 billion in revenue during the first quarter of 2014, a 12 percent jump over its record first quarter a year ago. The April 8, 2014 discontinuation of Windows XP support was a key contributor to SHI’s first quarter growth. As the deadline approached, customers sought SHI’s help in preparing for the operating system shift. Many used the deadline as an opportunity to upgrade hardware, with the overwhelming majority migrating to a more recent version of Windows.
“The discontinuation of Windows XP support was an opportunity for many customers to reevaluate their environments with an analytical eye,” said Thai Lee, President and CEO of SHI International Corp. “Given the complexity involved with supporting a new operating system, customers took a holistic approach by also refreshing hardware, reviewing the compatibility of applications, and updating their security posture -- tasks that needed to be completed swiftly and simultaneously. SHI’s expertise in software licensing, asset management, and complete hardware lifecycle support makes us an ideal partner for such a transition. Combined with our strong OEM partnerships, vendor-agnostic approach, and dedicated employees, the migration from Windows XP was a smooth one for our customers.”
In addition to XP, first quarter revenue was driven by the exponential growth of networking and datacenters, a trend that first unfolded in the fourth quarter of 2013. This growth was mostly led by Cisco (up 50 percent in the first quarter year over year), but was also reflected in the growth of emerging partners, like F5 and Juniper Networks, up 22 percent and 246 percent, respectively, year over year.
SHI also saw growth across many of its sales divisions in the first quarter, with public sector revenues up 32 percent and corporate/SMB growth up 35 percent year over year. Significant international revenue growth accompanied SHI’s success in the U.S., with SHI Canada up 7 percent, SHI U.K. up 24 percent, and SHI France up 30 percent compared to 2013.
