Vint Cerf, Google VP and Chief Internet Evangelist, to Speak at Annual Future in Review Conference

Global Thought Leaders Converge to Work on Solving Some of the World's Challenges in Real-Time

FRIDAY HARBOR, WA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/08/14 -- Vinton G. Cerf, Google Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist, will be featured in a Centerpiece Conversation at the 12th annual SNS Future in Review (FiRe) technology conference, May 20-23, 2014. This will be Cerf's second appearance at the annual technology and economic conference, described the by The Economist as "the best technology conference in the world."

Cerf has served as Vice President and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google since October 2005. In this role, he contributes to Internet policy and standards development and the expansion of Internet access around the world. Cerf also served at MCI, the Corporation for National Research Initiatives, and the US Department of Defense's Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and as a member of the Stanford University faculty.

Widely known as one of the "fathers of the Internet," Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocols and the architecture of the Internet. In December 1997, President Bill Clinton presented Cerf and his colleague, Robert E. Kahn, with the US National Medal of Technology for founding and developing the Internet. Cerf and Kahn were named the recipients of the 2004 ACM Alan M. Turing award, the "Nobel Prize of Computer Science," for their work on the Internet protocols. In November 2005, President George W. Bush awarded Cerf and Kahn the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award given by the United States to its citizens. Cerf was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in May 2006. He served as chairman of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) from 2000 to 2007. In April 2008, Cerf and Kahn received the prestigious Japan Prize. In June 2012, he was one of the recipients of the first Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering.
