OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/12/14 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, will be in Nova Scotia on May 14 and 15, 2014.
The Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada will first stop at Canadian Forces Base Greenwood to take part in the presentation and consecration of a new Standard. He will address Canadian Armed Forces members on this occasion.
His Excellency will attend the launch of the Community Foundation of Nova Scotia's Smart & Caring Community Fund. He will be showing his support for the fund by visiting not-for-profit organizations in the communities of Mahone Bay, Gold River and Chester. His Excellency will also present the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award to people from across the province.
In Halifax, the Governor General will join young people aged 15 to 30 to discuss youth engagement at a round-table discussion hosted by United Way Halifax. Finally, he will receive an honorary degree at the University of King's College's 225th Encaenia ceremony and deliver the convocation address to the assembled graduates and other honorary degree recipients.

Wednesday, May 14 Greenwood 10 a.m. Presentation of Colours to 405 Squadron The Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada will preside over the presentation and consecration of a new Standard to 405 Long Range Patrol Squadron. His Excellency will conduct the inspection of the guard of honour and deliver an address on this occasion. Formed in 1941, 405 Eagle Squadron was the Royal Canadian Air Force's first bomber Squadron. Today, the Squadron's primary responsibilities remain those of intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and control of Canada's eastern approaches.
