WhereScape Introduces New Release of its Data Warehouse Automation Software Optimized for Pivotal Greenplum Database

WhereScape, a provider of automation software for modeling, building and extending data warehouses and analytic systems, today announced a new release of WhereScape RED, the company’s flagship automation software that is optimized to fully leverage the Pivotal Greenplum massively parallel processing (MPP) Database. Available immediately, WhereScape RED for Greenplum accelerates time to value for an organization’s Greenplum investment by eliminating hand coding and automating Greenplum development. WhereScape RED for Greenplum requires fewer resources to model, build and deploy a Greenplum data warehouse, creating a simplified infrastructure and dramatically reducing total cost of ownership.

WhereScape RED builds native database objects optimized for Greenplum as well as other analytic appliances such as Netezza and Aster. In addition, RED supports target database platforms such as Teradata, SQL Server, DB2 and Oracle. As an ELT engine, RED can extract data from OLTP systems, flat files and big data platforms such as Hadoop Hive.

WhereScape RED enables practitioners to access source data from multiple environments, create procedural code, scripts, and tables, build cubes, schedule updates, and generate documentation in HTML format, all while maintaining existing BI front-end compatibility.

Union Bank Using WhereScape to Build Greenplum Data Warehouse
Union Bank, a full-service commercial bank with almost 400 locations, is using WhereScape RED for Greenplum to automate the development of its new Greenplum-based enterprise data warehouse. The Greenplum implementation is the bank’s main focus. However it is also pursuing a parallel development track designed to address an immediate business requirement that is focused on developing a consumer-lending departmental reporting system based on Microsoft Corp.'s SQL Server.

RED’s open metadata architecture is stored in database tables for easy access, and integrates with external testing and source control tools.

WhereScape RED works seamlessly as an ELT (extract, load and transformation) using the Greenplum GPLOAD bulk load utility, the fast method for loading data into Greenplum.
