OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 05/13/14 -- His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will mark the 70th Anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy by taking part in a commemorative event on June 6, 2014, at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum, in Ottawa.
"Seventy years ago, our veterans participated in the Battle of Normandy with determination and courage, said His Excellency. As governor general and commander-in-chief of Canada, it will be my privilege to honour them on this anniversary of D-Day. We will always remember their sacrifice and their fighting spirit. It was a defining moment in our history and, to this day, these brave Canadians have earned our greatest admiration and respect. On June 6, I invite Canadians to show their gratitude to our veterans, as we mark the 70th anniversary of this famous landing by Allied troops."
The events commemorating D-Day and the Battle of Normandy in the nation's capital are coordinated by the Department of Veterans Affairs, in collaboration with other federal departments and veterans groups.
