Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (NYSE: VPG), a leading producer of precision sensors and systems, based on its resistive foil technology, today announced that its G4 Weighing Instrument will be featured at the SmartAmerica Challenge Summit, taking place at the White House in June 2014.

The G4, a product of BLH Nobel, will be utilized in the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) test bed. In the demonstration, the device — which supports the legacy Modbus TCP protocol — will be ported to a server in Sweden using the XMPP instant messaging protocol, as defined by the IEEE P21451-1-4 committee, allowing real-time monitoring of a dispensing process. Through such connectivity, many other connected devices in the industrial sector would be able to participate in the IoT.
The G4 Weighing System offers high speed and high accuracy measurements for industrial applications, such as process weighing and control, force measurement, web tension measurement and control, automation, force vector calculations, high dynamic force measurement, and high-speed batching/blending systems. The modular unit provides users with a highly flexible, upgradeable, single instrument system capable of weighing up to eight independent vessels or scales.
Created by the National Institute of Technology (NIST) in 2013, the goal of the SmartAmerica Challenge is to accelerate IoT advances by providing a venue for innovators to present concepts for interconnected Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) technology, programs, and test beds to demonstrate the potential for improving the economy, fueling job creation, creating new business opportunities, and saving costs. The initiative will culminate in the SmartAmerica Challenge Summit at the White House, where teams will present their achievements.
