According to IHL’s Mobile POS Shipments report, overall iPad POS represents 55.9% of total mobile POS installations in retail and hospitality, with hospitality alone being around 21%. Many restaurant operators are gravitating away from traditional, fixed terminals towards more mobile systems to take advantage of inherent benefits such as lower cost of ownership, ease of use, enhanced customer service and space-saving design. The Lavu system is a full-featured hospitality management system that combines a sleek and user-friendly interface with the advanced functionality required to run an efficient restaurant, bar café or hotel operation. Epson’s OmniLink will serve as the peripheral device hub for the Lavu iPad POS platform enabling seamless and reliable connection and management of required POS peripherals, including credit card readers, barcode scanners, scales, and customer displays. With OmniLink, existing or new POS peripherals can be easily added – protecting legacy investments without diminishing the sleek Lavu iPad POS factor.

“We are very excited about the versatile design and integrated computing power OmniLink delivers,” commented Andy Lim, Co-Founder and CEO of Lavu. “We also value Epson’s overall reputation for bringing the most reliable products to hospitality. It’s really an ideal partnership for us, our dealers and our operators.”

“We like to partner with innovative companies that think outside the traditional POS box,” commented Tom Kettell, Manager of North American Sales for Epson’s Business Systems Division. “Lavu is the first to integrate our smart device into its iPad POS for hospitality, utilizing all the functionality it was built to deliver. Operators of all sizes considering a move to mobility should make sure this iPad POS is on their short list.”

Just over a week ago I received a long and loud sustained applause for a presentation I delivered at this year’s Cloud Expo in Santa Clara. I was extremely pleased with the turnout and had some very good conversations with many of the attendees. DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, rich desktop and tuned mobile experiences can now be created with a single codebase – without compromising functionality, performance or usability. In demand-intensive mobile and web applications, an emerging pattern is to host the Systems of Engagement in the cloud (for maximum responsiveness) but keep the Systems of Record with the other important business systems in the company datacenter, often on a tightly secured mainframe. But what about the space in between? In this IBM Redpaper publication, we show that the IBM Bluemix cloud platform offers technologies that make it easy for cloud-based SoEs to securely connect to on-premises IBM...
