PISCATAWAY, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- 05/19/14 -- The IEEE Industry Standards and Technology Organization (IEEE-ISTO), a federation of leading industry groups and consortia dedicated to the advancement of standardized technologies for the benefit of industry, today announces OpenPOWER Foundation as its newest associate member program.
The goal of the OpenPOWER Foundation is to create an open ecosystem, using the POWER Architecture to share expertise, investment, and server-class intellectual property to serve the evolving needs of customers. Based on IBM's POWER microprocessor architecture, OpenPOWER Foundation is an open development alliance which intends to build advanced server, networking, storage, and GPU-acceleration technology aimed at delivering more choice, control and flexibility to developers of next-generation, hyperscale and cloud data centers.
"When technology leaders collaborate in an open ecosystem, such as OpenPOWER Foundation, industry as a whole reaps the benefit," said Marco W. Migliaro, president and CEO, IEEE-ISTO. "We are happy to support the OpenPOWER Foundation and its mission."
The Foundation is opening the POWER architecture to give industry the ability to innovate across the full hardware and software stack, simplifying system design with an alternative architecture and driving expansion and innovation for future data centers. The result is the foundation blocks for a strong and complete ecosystem to provide customers with the flexibility to build servers best suited to the Power architecture.
"I feel the IEEE-ISTO offers the operational and executive-level support the Foundation requires to help foster a strong working infrastructure for member collaboration and organizational success," said Gordon MacKean, OpenPOWER Foundation Board of Directors chair.

Today we can collect lots and lots of performance data. We build beautiful dashboards and even have fancy query languages to access and transform the data. Still performance data is a secret language only a couple of people understand. The more business becomes digital the more stakeholders are interested in this data including how it relates to business. Some of these people have never used a monitoring tool before. They have a question on their mind like “How is my application doing” but no id...

Is the ongoing quest for agility in the data center forcing you to evaluate how to be a part of infrastructure automation efforts? As organizations evolve toward bimodal IT operations, they are embracing new service delivery models and leveraging virtualization to increase infrastructure agility. Therefore, the network must evolve in parallel to become equally agile. Read this essential piece of Gartner research for recommendations on achieving greater agility.
