zSpace Enhances Virtual Anatomy Training

Virtual Training Centers Provide Interactive and Advanced 3D Solutions to Create Lifelike Medical Training

SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/20/14 -- zSpace, Inc., a technology provider that delivers a new way of learning through immersive exploration, today announced it will provide advanced, interactive anatomy training solutions for medical schools and universities across the globe.

Partnered with Cyber Anatomy, Inc., zSpace's 3D virtual platform combined with Cyber-Anatomy's 3D medical education software allows medical students to advance their medical training and gain a deeper understanding of the human anatomy within a lifelike environment. Students at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York, the University of Washington School of Medicine in Idaho, and the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Texas will be able to easily interact, dissect and manipulate virtual anatomy as if using real body parts, creating a lifelike interaction, while significantly reducing the resources previously needed to perform such exercises.

Cyber-Anatomy Med VR is one of the world's most advanced medical-level anatomy software. Built on advanced engineering and gaming technologies, every structure in the human body was developed from the ground up in 3D, resulting in over 4,300 structures and over 13,000 identifiable anatomy landmarks. By leveraging zSpace's integrated hardware and software platform, Cyber-Anatomy Med will be delivered in a realistic, immersive and interactive 3D environment, allowing students to visualize, create and experience the human anatomy in ways not previously possible.

Taking a slightly different approach, medical students at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawai'i are creating their own anatomy models using Autodesk Maya 3D, animation software which offers an extensive creative feature set for 3D computer animation, modeling, visual effects, rendering, and compositing.

Similarly, Dassault Systèmes' 3D Experience software and simulation technology was applied to the Living Heart project, where multiple 3D models of the beating heart was created to show varied views of the heart -- from electrical impulses to muscle-fiber contractions -- the applications for this technology expand beyond anatomy training to patient education and surgical planning.
