WINNIPEG, MANITOBA -- (Marketwired) -- 05/20/14 -- Western Economic Diversification Canada
Today the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification announced $2.4 million in support of the University of Manitoba (U of M) to increase skills development and technology commercialization in Winnipeg through the Advanced Satellite Integration Facility (ASIF).
Western Economic Diversification Canada's funding will help establish the U of M as a leader in the area of space systems engineering and enable partners to access growing market opportunities in the aerospace industry, estimated at $200 million over the next 10 years.
-- The Advanced Satellite Integration Facility will be used for research development, construction and testing of satellite components. -- The facility will be co-located with industry (Magellan Aerospace) and serve as an overall hub for a new collaborative research, commercialization and training program between academia and industry. -- This project will help support the creation of high-skilled jobs for a growing and innovative industry.
