Essia Health Founder and Chief Medical Officer Kathleen Myers, MD, Named EY Entrepreneur of the Year™ 2014 Award Finalist in Pacific Northwest

Essia Health today announced that founder and chief medical officer, Kathleen Myers, MD, is a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ 2014 Award in the Pacific Northwest.

The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Dr. Myers was selected as one of 23 finalists from 21 companies in the Pacific Northwest by a panel of independent judges. Award winners will be announced at a special gala event June 20 at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue, Washington.

“Dr. Myers’ commitment to expanding our position in the medical scribe industry to create a successful EMR optimization business has been a crucial success factor that differentiates Essia Health from our competitors,” said Matthew Kirchner, president and chief executive officer, Essia Health. “From the start, Dr. Myers’ focus on clinical excellence and exceptional customer service provided the foundation to expand the business into challenging new markets to rapidly accelerate company growth. Being named a finalist for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year is a testament to her foresight that has led Essia Health where we are today – a leader in shaping how the adoption of new and rapidly changing information technologies can optimize the provider and patient experience.”

Essia Health (formerly Scribes STAT) was founded in 2011 by Dr. Myers, an emergency department physician who realized at-the-elbow support could dramatically transform the adoption of electronic medical record (EMR) technologies to improve physician productivity as well as patient satisfaction. In addition to providing specially trained medical scribes to healthcare organizations throughout the U.S., the company specializes in EMR implementation services and has successfully completed more than 100 EMR go-lives with major hospital networks and specialty clinics.

“When I was first using an EMR, I realized that I didn’t want to be the doctor who had my back to the patient while I was typing into my computer, and I was sure other doctors felt likewise,” Dr. Myers said. “I started the medical scribe program in my ER physician group as a way to integrate EMRs while re-humanizing the healthcare experience. When hospitals and specialty clinics started making significant investments in information technology to meet the Affordable Care Act’s EMR adoption deadlines, I realized that the model I started to solve our needs internally had significant potential in the marketplace. I’m proud of the entire team at Essia Health because I believe that being named as an EY Entrepreneur Of The Year finalist recognizes our combined efforts to improve the business and practice of medicine at the point of care.”

You know you need the cloud, but you’re hesitant to simply dump everything at Amazon since you know that not all workloads are suitable for cloud. You know that you want the kind of ease of use and scalability that you get with public cloud, but your applications are architected in a way that makes the public cloud a non-starter. You’re looking at private cloud solutions based on hyperconverged infrastructure, but you’re concerned with the limits inherent in those technologies.
Most companies are adopting or evaluating container technology - Docker in particular - to speed up application deployment, drive down cost, ease management and make application delivery more flexible overall. As with most new architectures, this dream takes a lot of work to become a reality. Even when you do get your application componentized enough and packaged properly, there are still challenges for DevOps teams to making the shift to continuous delivery and achieving that reduction in cost ...
All organizations that did not originate this moment have a pre-existing culture as well as legacy technology and processes that can be more or less amenable to DevOps implementation. This culture and entrenched interests usually throw a wrench in the work...
DevOps is under attack because developers don’t want to mess with infrastructure. They will happily own their code into production, but want to use platforms instead of raw automation. That’s changing the landscape that we understand as DevOps with both architecture concepts (CloudNative) and process redefinition (SRE). Rob Hirschfeld’s recent work in Kubernetes operations has led to the conclusion that containers and related platforms have changed the way we should be thinking about DevOps and...
