IBM is devoting increasing resources to the Internet of Things, and a nice chunk of that commitment will be visible during the upcoming @ThingsExpo, co-located with Cloud Expo at the Javits Center in New York June 10-12.
There will, in fact, be five speakers from IBM on the program. One of them will be Distinguished Engineer Mac Devine who will discuss "The Perfect Storm of Cloud Computing, Big Data, and the Internet of Things." He will present on the Internet of Things Track at 11:40am, Tuesday, June 10.
"Almost everyone sees the potential of Internet-of-Things but how can businesses truly unlock that potential.?," he asks. "The key will be in the ability to discover business insight in the midst of an ocean of BigData generated from billions of embedded devices via Systems of Discover. Businesses will also need to ensure that they can sustain that insight by leveraging the cloud for global reach, scale and elasticity."
Mac began his career in the mainframe software development arena, working as chief programmer for several VTAM releases. He then spent some time as lead solutions architect for networking alliances that included Cisco and Nortel. In 2005, he started the Enterprise Platform Software Architecture Board and served as it chairman, then started the zCloud Innovation team in 2007.
Mac was appointed an IBM Distinguished Engineer in 2008, and most recently led the technical due diligence for the SoftLayer acquisition and the creation of IBM's new Cloud Services Division. Mac currently serves as the Director of CloudFirst Innovation and CTO for the IBM Cloud Services Division.
