Infospace, a proprietary developer of metasearch products, announced today the launch of its mobile app, Zoo®. Zoo helps users cut through the clutter and discover rich, relevant search results, including videos, images and news from around the web.
Created to take the guesswork out of website credibility, Zoo enables users to find what they are looking for faster. When users like or dislike a site, Zoo adds the preference to its proprietary scoring algorithm. The result is a ZooScore, an easy-to-scan score that helps Zoo users quickly find high quality sites. In addition to liking and disliking sites, Zoo allows users to block sites. Site blocking puts Zoo users in control by allowing users to block sites that are spammy or have irrelevant, incorrect or outdated information. Once a site is blocked, Zoo will prevent it from appearing in the search results ever again.
“People are tired of the tedious process of sifting through pages of search results to find high quality sites and relevant information,” said Lee Fergestrom, sr., director of product for Infospace. “When you’re on-the-go, you need the right results fast. You don’t have time to click results that lead to spammy or irrelevant content. We believe that people deserve more from mobile search.”
Additionally, Zoo offers the following features that allow users to find what they need quickly and easily:
- Discover and Trending: Browse popular headlines and trending topics based on personal tastes and interests.
- Favorites: Conveniently allows users to save content they want to revisit or save for later.
- Privacy Mode: Users can take their browsing “off the record” by turning off the search history for a private search experience.
- Search and Share: Discover a great site? Quickly and easily share sites and images with contacts using the integrated share feature.
- Voice-Enabled Search: Users can search the web by simply speaking requests.
“With Zoo, our goal is to empower users, to provide a more personalized search experience and to collectively build a better, more credible web,” said Fergestrom.

WebRTC has had a real tough three or four years, and so have those working with it. Only a few short years ago, the development world were excited about WebRTC and proclaiming how awesome it was. You might have played with the technology a couple of years ago, only to find the extra infrastructure requirements were painful to implement and poorly documented. This probably left a bitter taste in your mouth, especially when things went wrong.
