Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today the Western European launch of UpToDate® Anywhere, enabling hospitals and healthcare organizations to provide clinicians with access to its acclaimed clinical decision support resource anytime, anywhere via mobile app and electronic health record. For faster access to clinical answers, UpToDate Anywhere also provides search and navigation in nine languages.
“No matter where clinicians are—at the bedside, in the clinic, or elsewhere, helping them find the best answers to their clinical questions is a key part of our mission to improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare worldwide,” said Denise Basow, MD, Vice President and General Manager, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “UpToDate Anywhere advances that mission by ensuring clinicians have quick access on their mobile devices and in their electronic medical record to trusted clinical information.”
A recent worldwide survey by UpToDate* revealed that doctors and healthcare institutions are increasingly implementing mobile health strategies to drive adoption of devices like the iPad® as clinical tools. The survey found that 77% of doctors use a smartphone during practice and 70% use mobile devices for clinical decision support. With the UpToDate mobile app, doctors get actionable answers to point-of-care questions on-site, at satellite offices, at home or on the go.
Ranked first among “The best medical apps for your new iPhone” by iMedicalApps and rated as one of “The Best Apps in Publishing” by EContent Magazine, UpToDate is available in iOS, Android™ and Windows 8 mobile platforms as well as via any mobile internet browser. Over 200,000 clinicians are already using the UpToDate mobile app worldwide.
European hospitals and healthcare systems with a strategic objective to enhance workflow integration can opt to embed UpToDate in electronic medical record systems such as Cerner, InterSystems, MEDITECH, and others. This allows users to search UpToDate with fewer clicks and without additional windows or log-ins.
Supporting the launch of UpToDate Anywhere in Western Europe is Search in Your Own Language, a customizable suite of local-language search and navigation tools that enables clinicians to research clinical questions in their native language. It streamlines searching for clinical information and graded recommendations by leveraging an advanced, patent-pending translation system for search terms in nine languages, including French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and English. The intuitive auto-complete feature of UpToDate search also predicts words or phrases in a clinician’s native language to deliver faster results.

Cloud computing is unquestionably one of the driving forces of DevOps, as the automation of operations transforms enterprise software development. Just over a week ago I received a long and loud sustained applause for a presentation I delivered at this year’s Cloud Expo in Santa Clara. I was extremely pleased with the turnout and had some very good conversations with many of the attendees. Over the next few days I had many more meaningful conversations and was not only happy with the results but also learned a few new things. Here is everything I learned in those three days distilled into three short points.

In demand-intensive mobile and web applications, an emerging pattern is to host the Systems of Engagement in the cloud (for maximum responsiveness) but keep the Systems of Record with the other important business systems in the company datacenter, often on a tightly secured mainframe. But what about the space in between? In this IBM Redpaper publication, we show that the IBM Bluemix cloud platform offers technologies that make it easy for cloud-based SoEs to securely connect to on-premises IBM...

DevOps is about increasing efficiency, but nothing is more inefficient than building the same application twice. However, this is a routine occurrence with enterprise applications that need both a rich desktop web interface and strong mobile support. With recent technological advances from Isomorphic Software and others, rich desktop and tuned mobile experiences can now be created with a single codebase – without compromising functionality, performance or usability. In his session at DevOps Su...
