OZ Systems, a leading provider of public health information systems and interoperable exchange, introduces OZ STAR™, a fully integrated technology platform that makes it possible to Screen, Track, Analyze and Report newborn health data all in one place.
“We kept hearing from hospitals about how disconnected the newborn screening process is,” said Dr. Terese Finitzo, CEO of OZ Systems. “OZ STAR™ provides both hospitals and public health with technology that boosts efficiency, reduces human error and improves safety in newborn screening. By putting everyone on the same page, we help staff worry less about capturing and transferring data, and more about quality care delivery, patient safety and follow-up care.”
Combining previously disconnected tasks of newborn screening, tracking, analyzing and reporting, OZ STAR™ allows clinical staff to capture point of care screening results for early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) and critical congenital heart disease (CCHD). The platform also merges data from the baby’s hospital admission and birth record to create a fully interoperable record that can be tracked and analyzed within the OZ eSP™ database. OZ STAR™ then clearly reports data via the hospital’s Electronic Health Record (EHR) or to the state’s public health program, opening up communications between providers and public health.
OZ STAR™ improves the flow and delivery of newborn screening through:
- Pre-populating patient demographics, admissions information, and embedding clinical decision support, reducing data entry-related human error and patient risk
- Viewing of real-time capture and communication of patient data, enhancing workflow, preventing missed screenings and improving timely follow-up care
- Complete audit trails of newborn screening processes, including the newest point of care screening, CCHD
- Automated reporting and notification to public health and EHR systems
OZ Systems developed OZ STAR™ to give providers and public health departments the integrated tool needed to efficiently screen, track, and analyze data, then follow up with timely intervention for infants with hearing loss, congenital heart disease, metabolic and genetic disorders, and other serious newborn health conditions.
