Valen Analytics, a provider of proprietary data, analytics and predictive modeling for insurance carriers, has signed Change the Equation’s (CTEq) Commitment to Excellence in STEM. This initiative is a collective chorus of business leaders in championing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) literacy. In signing the commitment, Valen Analytics has reaffirmed the value it places on STEM literacy for all young people in the U.S.
Valen and other commitment signatories, including Accenture, State Farm Insurance, Time Warner Cable and Intel, have pledged to: collaborate with each other’s respective programs; to enforce high expectations for all students; to encourage data-driven advocacy for STEM; and to support the availability of high-quality STEM learning programs in communities across the country. Members of the program were recognized at an event held on May 16, in Arlington, VA.
“We are thrilled to be a part of the such forward thinking companies, pledging our commitment to STEM literacy,” said Dax Craig, CEO of Valen Analytics. “We will continue to support CTEq to motivate the insurance industry to build a pipeline for our future workforce.”
“We applaud Valen Analytics for its role in making universal STEM literacy a reality,” said CTEq CEO Linda P. Rosen. “The public declaration of support for the commitment and the actions that will ensue from the corporate community recognizes that STEM literacy is a transformative life-skill that impacts the future success of our young people and the ability of our nation to remain a leader in innovation.”
Motivated by their partnership with CTEq, Valen distributed their first Tomorrow’s Talent Challenge Scholarship to a high school engineering student. This is the first of many efforts to inspire youth to pursue a STEM education and explore careers in insurance analytics and technology.

About Change the Equation
Change the Equation works at the intersection of business and education to ensure that all students are STEM literate by collaborating with schools, communities, and states to adopt and implement excellent STEM policies and programs. CTEq’s coalition of members are working toward universal STEM literacy by advocating for state policies and practices that are known to produce STEM-literate high school graduates; ensuring high standards for all students; and supporting evidence-based high quality STEM learning programs.
With so much going on in this space you could be forgiven for thinking you were always working with yesterday’s technologies. So much change, so quickly. What do you do if you have to build a solution from the ground up that is expected to live in the field for at least 5-10 years? This is the challenge we faced when we looked to refresh our existing 10-year-old custom hardware stack to measure the fullness of trash cans and compactors.
